The City Council awarded the first performance Lorca consolidation of the slope of the castle (28/05/2010)

The Town Planning Councillor, Francisco García, explained that "this first phase, in which 30 people work 13,035 hours, representing an investment of 575,000 euros" and lamented that "in the last 20 years the previous municipal governments did nothing to to prevent landslides "

The Town Planning of the City of Lorca, Francisco Garcia, has informed that the Local Government Committee this morning approved the provisional award of 575,000 euros worth of "the first performance in the last 20 years taking place in the side of castle for the consolidation of the hill, avoid rock falls, which posed a potential danger to the residents of Uptown and visitors. "

Garcia stressed that "15 companies have chosen to implement this project, which has allowed this improvement contractor in the project valued at € 318,411.16, in addition to 30 people spend a total of 13,035 hours dedicated to this work and reduce lead time material for the works to three months after the commencement of them, for what is still missing the final award. "

"This will reduce the execution time in two months and cost 15,000 euros action on the budget initially foreseen in the project, besides the municipal engineers with the company decide what the budget is earmarked for improvements," he added the mayor.

Urban Councilman emphasized that "this government team is putting the solutions during the previous municipal governments did not, although three studies drafted."

"When the Popular Party to power these jobs were obsolete, so it was necessary to conduct a new study, which was entrusted to a specialized company, which had already drawn one of the previous studies," Garcia clarified.

"The priority in this initiative is to provide security to the most dangerous because of its proximity to housing, while protecting the road down the castle, which is disabled to avoid risks," stressed the council.

Garcia added that "once it resolves this issue more problematic, we will continue to make efforts to secure the necessary financial support to undertake the subsequent phases of consolidation in other sectors identified in the study, and require less urgent intervention ".

"This project is coordinated with the other aimed at strengthening the fortress wall, which runs Turespaña within the final construction work of the Parador," said the mayor.

The geological and geotechnical situation of the solid rock on which the castle of Lorca is very complicated, with a completely broken and unstable ground, a problem compounded by the severe weather and earthquakes, as Lorca is located in the active fault Alhama, Murcia.

Through extensive field testing and analysis, reports commissioned established four areas of action, depending on their urgency.

Zones 1 and 2 located from the water tank, between the road down and the walls are those that are in worse condition and require this emergency action.

Zone 3, in the vicinity of Parador, is more stable and would be following in the act.

And Zone 4, which is the side that faces the river Guadalentín, requires less urgency.

The project includes the installation of a flexible sheet consisting of a diamond mesh steel wire, high-capacity resilient.

Beneath this mesh is placed another smaller holes in direct contact with the rock, so that small stones can not fall.

The nets will be anchored by steel rods (from an average length of 9 meters) hosted with perforations of the land, to exert even pressure on the sliding surface.

Other anchors provided are based on cables that tie the perimeter, while other cables are designed to link the networks, as well as the support and load transfer to join the network anchors.

These metallic elements to be glued to the ground, to prevent its destruction, be made of special anti-corrosive treatment.

In the area number 1, the total area on which to act is 498 square meters, while the number 2, that area reaches 1,985 meters square.

Another element to be placed to stop erosion are small loose stone walls surrounded by a galvanized wire mesh that hinder the passage of sand and fillings, called gabions, of which it is planned to place about 21 meters linear 30 centimeters thick.

However, the project may be modified in some respects, thanks to the improvements referred to in the award.
