IU asks the mayor of Lorca to remove the publicity of the City Council in the media that published personal data of the victim of "the Pack" (08/05/2018)

According to Gloria Martín, the town hall can not show its rejection of gender violence and then feed with money of the citizens pseudo-journalism slop that undermines the rights and protection of victims of sexual abuse by court decision

The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes de Lorca, Gloria Martín, has asked the mayor of this municipality, Fulgencio Gil (PP), to order the withdrawal of the institutional publicity that the City Council carries out in the ultra-rightist media of Cartagena that published personal data, the face of the victim and a sensitive photograph of the video of the summary of the case 'La Manada'.

Martin reminded Gil that different brands and companies have already stopped using another website that also violated the victim's anonymity as a platform for their ads.

"We can not show our rejection of gender violence and then feed this pseudo-journalistic slop with citizens' money that threatens the rights and protection of women victims of sexual abuse by judicial decision," he said.

In an article with the title of 'I do not believe you', all kinds of personal information about the girl have been exposed: the name and surnames, the university where she studied and even a photograph.

In the text accusatory phrases against her are used, such as "you did not run or ask for help because you were going to what you were going to, to beat you up with an orgy and debauchery with five strangers".

As if that were not enough, the director of the sensationalist newspaper, Josele Sánchez, in another article addressed to the victim, says that "I am convinced that you enjoyed the orgy", in addition to threatening to spread the video of sexual abuse, which could be constitutive of crime.

For Martin, it is "unacceptable" that the money of the Lorca taxpayers be used to finance "the moral misery that shows this far-right and misogynist pamphlet" that aims to make a popular lynching of the victim.

In this regard, the mayor recalled that the Cybercrime Unit of the National Police has sent to the court of the case publications in social networks of personal data of the victim, since the sentence expressly prohibits dissemination, so he asked citizens "common sense" and not to participate in this harassment of the victim.
