The PSOE asks for the relocation of Santa Quiteria's Caño and the Angel of Fame of San Patricio to their places of origin (12/05/2018)

At this time, neither the Santa Quiteria Canal has been integrated into its primitive place despite the completion of the urbanization works in the area of the auditorium and congress palace, as well as the relocation of the Angel of Fame in the Plaça del Cardenal Belluga. , whereabouts unknown for eight years when he was going to undergo a restoration.

The councilor of the Municipal Socialist Group in the City of Lorca, David Romera, has asked the PP Government team to proceed with the relocation in its original locations both the Santa Quiteria Caño and the Angel of Fame that crowned the main façade of the Collegiate Church of San Patricio, later relocated to Plaza del Cardenal Belluga, both elements of the 18th century.

Romera has indicated that "these are two singular elements of the monumental heritage of the city that over time have become icons, in landmarks of the urban landscape, with an important historical and sentimental value for Lorca."

At the moment, it seems that "there is no will whatsoever to return both the Santa Quiteria Canal and the Angel of Fame to the places where they were placed and that now remain empty", so that they "remain unaccounted for".

In the case of the Caño de Santa Quiteria, adds the socialist mayor, "it is curious that with the urbanization works that have been carried out in the esplanade of the auditorium and congress palace, and that they are practically finished, no reservation has been made. preferential space for the relocation and enhancement of a singular element of 1781 ", a hydraulic infrastructure to supply drinking water from the spring of Zarzadilla de Totana to the neighborhood, and denounces that this preferred place" has been replaced by a large paving and the structure of two large vents of the underground parking of the auditorium ".

As for the Angel of Fame, "we do not know anything" of this five-meter-tall sculpture that originally crowned the image of the Collegiate Church of San Patricio, sculpted between 1702 and 1703 by stonecutter Agustín de Pareja.

After more than 300 years crowning the famous Colegial de Lorca, in 1984 it was dismantled for having an excessive weight (11,000 kg.) That put at risk the stability of the façade, to be relocated in the Plaza del Cardenal Belluga and replaced by a replica less heavy

In 2010 it was dismantled to undergo a restoration and after eight years since then "we do not know the place and the situation in which this patrimonial element is found".

Romera concludes with the requirement that makes the councilman of Culture to indicate "where and in what situation are these two heritage elements, the Santa Quiteria Caño and the Angel of Fame of St. Patrick and the destination that is intended to give" , and asks that "in the shortest period of time possible, the relocation of both be carried out in their places of origin": the auditorium esplanade for the Caño de Santa Quiteria and the Plaza del Cardenal Belluga for the Angel of Fame.
