The municipal program of Grandparents Storytelling expands its activities with stories to the schools San José, Sacred Heart, José Robles, San Cristóbal and Casa del Niño (30/05/2018)

This is the project "Al cole con el cuento", an initiative of the Department of the Mayor, which is added to those that have been done regularly by this area.

The Councilor for Policy of the Major in the City of Lorca, Fátima Mínguez, has reported that this area, through the program "Grandparents Storytelling" has undertaken a new initiative to stimulate relationships between children and counting as a resource with reading of different narrations.

This is the project "Al cole con el cuento", which will be developed throughout this week in a total of 5 schools in the municipality, as is the case of the San José, Sacred Heart, José Robles, San Cristóbal centers and House of the Child.

Fátima Mínguez, who has supervised the activity today, explained that the Mayor's Council intends to improve and complete the offer of services aimed at the elderly in the city.

We offer a wide program of activities as a space to encourage participation, meeting and integration of the social group of adults.

The aims are to promote coexistence, solidarity and mutual help, participation in social and community life;

also favor the cultural development and leisure time occupation of our elders to improve their quality of life.

The objectives of this council are:

-Favor the enjoyment of life through the development of social and personal skills.

-To reinforce the maintenance of the functional capacities of the elderly, acting in a preventive environment increasing their well-being.

-Support the creation of autonomous activity groups.

-Promote the social participation of the elderly and the revitalization of the elderly collectives.

-Develop socio-educational actions of individual and group nature.

This new proposal aims to promote active aging, promote intergenerational relationships, motivate social participation through specific actions, contribute to the maintenance of memory using creativity, language, visualization, story, theatricalization of it, as well as occupy the blank time of our elders in a positive way and improving their self-esteem.

It also seeks to facilitate the exchange between seniors and other age groups, such as children, foster a positive vision of old age and aging in our society.

We must remember that this municipal area has won the Regional Prize for the Elderly precisely because of the program to promote reading.

This year, the Storytelling Grandparents program has introduced new features, such as the application of the popular Kamishibai, Japanese, as well as celebrating the 1st Grandparents Storytelling Contest with children from social programs of Caixa Proinfancia.

The elderly also come to tell stories to other centers such as APANDIS, CEE Pilar Soubrier, Guardería San José de Calasanz, Eliosol and the Municipal Center for Early Assistance.
