The Mayor is committed to advancing the recovery of the railway line with Granada to complete the correction of the serious error that its closure entailed in 1984 (08/06/2018)

Fulgencio Gil has indicated that the General State Budgets include a line item for the writing of the pertinent informative study, once the corresponding feasibility study has been completed, which was published several months ago.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, confirmed this morning the City Council's interest in recovering the railway line that historically communicated our city with Granada and Eastern Andalusia, through the connection established in the communications node by train of Almendricos.

This is a social claim that would mean correcting the biggest one that has been committed in terms of rail communications throughout the Spanish east, as was the closure of the train lines linking Andalusia and Lorca, both on the stretch to Almeria , like the branch that connected us directly with Granada.

The First Lorca Edil has stressed that we have already obtained confirmation from the Government of Spain that Lorca will have its own stop for the AVE at the current location of Sutullena, and that the San Diego station will give way to a modern station , larger comfortable and functional.

We know, because the Minister of Public Works made it clear during his visit to the city, that the road layout will be completely buried throughout the urban area, saving even the Las Chatas and Las Señoritas watercourses, and we have proof of the progress made to culminate the sections to Almeria and Murcia.

Now, therefore, it is time to talk about the connection with Granada.

We must remember that these commitments even have their corresponding reflection and budget reserve by the Ministry of Development, investments on which we will maintain a particular vigilance so that they become a reality as soon as possible, in the same way that we will maintain our demand for that the commuter service has trains renewed as soon as possible, given the commitment Renfe made just a few days ago to the Minister of Development.

The objective is, for example, that any Lorca who wishes can take a train in the center of the city to visit the Alhambra, as well as any Granada coming to enjoy our Holy Week, recovering a service that fostered the establishment of ties social, business and emotional that should never have been lost.

Fulgencio Gil said that the City Council is committed to recover this connection from a criterion of responsibility and as a true common project of the municipalities of Granada, Almeria and Murcia that we would benefit from the correction of the serious error that led to its closure, closure and subsequent disassembly of roads.

It is obvious that the time has come to put this issue back on the table, since it is a municipal request that reflects the interest in this respect shown by the economic and social agents of both Lorca and dozens of localities for the that this road branch passed.

The First Edil pointed out that the recovery of this connection would multiply the possibilities of our companies, would constitute an outstanding social and tourist revulsive and would bring us closer to our sister municipalities thanks to a comfortable, fast and efficient transport, removing the barrier that that unfortunate closure line in 1984. This measure responds to common sense and the general interest of thousands of citizens, so it is time to give a new and definitive momentum.

Fulgencio Gil has stated that we are aware that thanks to the momentum that has been given in this regard by the municipalities that would benefit from this line, the Government of Spain, through the Ministry of Development, concluded a few months ago the previous study of feasibility, and that has even been included in the State Infrastructure Plan 2012-2024, thanks to the inclusion of economic items in the General State Budgets of 2015 and 2016. We must remember that in the current PGE an endowment was reserved 500,000 euros for the writing of the informative study of the line, which we hope will be written including the needs of our counties.

The reopening of the line would not only benefit Lorca, but directly to municipalities such as Puerto Lumbreras, Huércal Overa, Albox, Partaloa, Fines, Purchena, Lúcar, Serón, Baza, Gor, Guadix, Darro, Bogarre, Iznalloz, Daifonte, Dangers and Granada.

The Mayor has made these statements at the train station Lorca Sutullena, along with the Councilor for Development, Angel Mecca, and the senators of the Kingdom of Spain María José Martín and Pedro José Pérez.
