The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia, in collaboration with the Food Safety and Zoonoses Service of the Ministry of Health of the Region of Murcia, has carried out an investigation in Lorca, which has resulted in the seizure, in an establishment commercial, about one ton of fishing products in poor condition.

The products were found both for sale to the public, as well as stored in an irregular manner, many of them in very poor hygienic-sanitary conditions and expired.

The owner of the establishment, which has been closed provisionally, has been denounced for alleged administrative infractions regarding fishing and food safety.

The investigation began when the Civil Guard became aware of the existence of a commercial establishment, located in the town of Lorca, dedicated to the sale of fish products where, apparently, fish was sold in poor condition.

Agents of the Service of Nature Protection (SEPRONA) of the Civil Guard, in collaboration with inspectors of the Food Safety and Zoonoses Service of the Ministry of Health of the Region of Murcia, moved to the place to perform the corresponding inspection.

In the establishment, run by a citizen of Moroccan nationality, were found 742 kilos of different marine marine species, sea breams, pots, sardines and blue whiting in terrible hygienic sanitary conditions.

Some of the products were exposed to the public without adequate refrigeration and others, stored at room temperature among other items of the premises.

Some of these foods, in addition, had expired and lacked the mandatory documentation on their traceability.

During the inspection, agents detected a van where 182 kilos of fish were located, arranged in boxes for transport by road.

The vehicle lacked the proper cooling conditions, as well as the necessary documentation that enables the transport of fresh food.

In that act 924 kilos of fishing products were seized, 742 of which have been destroyed and the rest (182 kilos) located inside the van immobilized and moved to the Sewer Fish Market available to the General Directorate of Public health.

The owner of the establishment and the owner of the vehicle have been denounced for administrative presumptions to the Law 3/2001, of March 26, of Maritime Fishing of the State, Law 28/2015, of July 30, for the defense of the quality and Law 17/2011, of July 5, on food security and nutrition.

The commercial establishment has been closed in a precautionary manner.
