The City Council supports the request to anticipate the connection of AVE with Almería (12/06/2018)

The objective of the proposed amendment is to ensure that the tranches are tendered as planned for the second half of 2018 and to try, as far as possible, to make modifications to boost its operation before the year 2023

The Councilor for Development in the City of Lorca, Angel Mecca, has applauded the initiative of the Popular Group in the Senate to present an amendment aimed at accelerating and consolidating the construction of the Mediterranean Corridor in its connection between Almeria and Lorca, section in which they include the investments related to the arrival of the AVE to our city, guaranteeing its start-up by the year 2023 and trying to accelerate the deadlines.

El Edil stressed that "the objective is to provide the project economically to get Lorca connected to Almeria through High Speed, marking a before and after in the rail connections of our municipality." We consider that this is a question that responds to the general interest of all Lorca and that would help correct one of the most serious errors that have been perpetrated against the rail connection in Spain, as was the closure and dismantling of the train line that connected us with Almería, a situation that was seen aggravated by also severing the connection with Eastern Andalusia through Granada ".

"We are talking about an opportunity to continue advancing in the works that are already underway to get Lorca to have a modern, safe and comfortable AVE station, in the heart of the city, with its layout buried along all the urban fabric, and getting, in addition, that the stop of San Diego happens to have a new station, more functional and operative ".

Mecca recalled that "Lorca want to have AVE today better than tomorrow, and is a demand supported by all social agents, business groups, citizens and economic municipality, so the inclusion of an amendment in the Senate of the Kingdom of Spain on the part of the Popular Group, it seems to us a plausible and necessary gesture so that the development of transport by rail becomes a priority and allows us to leave behind the obsolescence that has characterized this means of transport as it passes through the City of the Sun " .

In this sense, Meca recalled that "from the City Council we are not going to relent in the claims to make the High Speed in its path through Lorca at the same time we will continue demanding the reopening of the rail connection with Granada that is a necessity to bring our municipality and Andalusia, alleviating the many consequences of eliminating this connection in the 1980s, as it meant strengthening the social, cultural and business ties that link the Guadalentín region with the province of Granada. the City Council, with the Mayor at the head, we are going to maintain our firm demand for the Cercanías trains to be improved and renewed as soon as possible, giving voice to the claims of Lorca who are a clamor, following the commitment transmitted by Adif to the Councilor of Development a few days ago about the immediate investment of 8 million euros for the improvement of trains, we will be vigilant for what

Investments are made as soon as possible. "

From the Municipal Council we support the request so that, once the planning that will allow the conclusion of the AVE Almería-Murcia in the province of Almeria is approved, the commitment to tender its stretches, foreseen for the second semester of 2018 by value of about 1,500 million euros as approved by the Government of Spain in 2017, and work will continue on this High Speed line to meet the important investments planned for the coming years, with an investment of 715 million euros in four years, assuming the commitment to make the necessary modifications to be able, in its case, to anticipate its conclusion, scheduled for the year 2023.
