The PSOE proposes measures to prevent the theft of the wiring of the public lighting system in Lorca (26/06/2018)

Sanchez Jódar ensures that the continuity of this Mayor and the "exhausted" project of the PP prevents the Lorca City Council from implementing innovative initiatives such as those proposed by the PSOE and that are being developed in a "very positive" manner by other municipalities in the country, where they have implemented anti-theft systems "that are patented to detect and prevent the subtraction of public electrical wiring".

The deputy spokesman of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, Marisol Sanchez has called for improvements in the conditions of municipal electricity service, given the deficiencies that have been recorded and affecting the citizens of Lorca.

As pointed out by the socialist mayor, the budget allocated in recent years to the electricity service has suffered an "important decline" that "affects the quality of service."

Currently, he warns, the budget allocated is around 160,000 euros, when other years, remember, this budget reached up to 600,000 euros.

The reduction in the budget allocated is also linked to the reduction of the workforce.

At present, the City of Lorca only has 1o workers of the electrical system, half less than ten years ago.

However, while the budget and staff have suffered these cuts, what have increased are the areas of action.

With less budget and fewer workers, workers must now cover more areas.

Specifically, the electricity service has to serve about 45,000 points of light, in addition to the electrical maintenance of all schools, social centers and, ultimately, all public buildings in the municipality.

To which for some years, in addition, the maintenance of the network of medical offices throughout the municipality has been added, which the Regional Government has transferred to the Mayor of Lorca and which he has complied "without question".

In addition, the mayor has denounced this morning that since last March 9 it is impossible to make the purchase of any type of supply of electrical equipment, which is seriously affecting the daily work.

In this sense, he assures that "what the Mayor has to do is to make decisions and unblock the situation since it is working with the stock of stored materials as they are blocked by bureaucratic problems of interpretation of the new Contract Law, Law 9/2017 in relation to minor contracts to buy supplies and materials.

"If there is no material and you can not buy, it is impossible to deal with the global incidence", therefore "this means that there are neighbors to whom the problem can be solved and neighbors to those who can not."

The inability to "put a brake" on the continuous thefts of electrical wiring is also assuming "losses to Lorca" as it leads to "annual expenses exceeding 70,000 euros."

Only this week there have been two robberies of electrical installations on the bridge of San Cristóbal and Torre del Obispo.

The lack of personnel, supplies and innovative systems such as the one proposed by the PSOE, "means that many of the breakdowns caused by the theft of the cable have not been able to be repaired".

An example has been the theft of the electrical installation that affected the entire park of La Paca, a year ago and that "is still pending repair."
