40 people make up the extraordinary device against fires that daily monitors the forest areas of Lorca and coordinates officials of the City Council and the CARM (02/07/2018)

As a preventive reinforcement, exterior hydrants have been placed in the deputations of Zarcilla de Ramos and Campo López, with the aim of having a water supply if necessary.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, together with the Councilman for Emergencies, Juan Miguel Bayonas, presented this morning at the facilities of the Integrated Emergency and Security Center, the Special Fire Fighting Plan, INFOMUR.

The Mayor explained that since last June 15th, these two patrols have been carrying out mobile surveillance throughout the municipality, such as Sierra de Torrecilla, Gigante, Sierras de Tercia and El Madroño and El Cambrón, and On the other side, Almenara and La Carrasquilla mountain ranges and the littoral area of ​​the municipality.

On the other hand, it has activated the "Brigade of Soon Help for Extinction of Forest Fires" as a unit within the Municipal Emergency Service and Civil Protection.

Currently, it is equipped with 3 vehicles of rapid intervention of 450, 500, and 800 liters, distributed strategically in the northern area of ​​Zarcilla de Ramos, in the Guadalentín Valley area and another in the southern area of ​​Calnegre tips adding up a total of 6 people.

The unit of Lorca, was the first to be created in the Region of Murcia, in 2002, and subsequently incorporated into the INFOMUR Plan structure within the Extinction Group, as a means to help the extinction, to demonstrate the effectiveness of the innovative doctrine of extinction applied by our emergency service, by intervening with light and very fast vehicles that shorten the response times and allow extinguishing most of the fires in their conatus phase.

Also, the means and resources are added by the Autonomous Community that is in our municipal area, such as the fixed positions of Surveillance and Detection (El Almirez and La Castellana), the forest fire protection brigades of Zarcilla de Ramos and Lorca formed by 12 people, the fire station of the CEIS in Lorca formed by 8 people on duty, the helicopter with the heli-transported brigade based in Zarcilla de Ramos formed by 6 people and with a discharge capacity of 1200 liters, and a surveillance aircraft air for the entire region, equipped with pilot and operator.

All these resources form the immediate mechanism of action in the event of any forest fire that occurs in our term and that in case of need other means, both terrestrial and aerial, from other zones of the region will be incorporated.

The total human resources used daily in the surveillance, detection and extinction of fires amounts to 40 people.

As a preventive reinforcement, fire hydrant exterior hydrants have been installed in the districts of Zarcilla de Ramos and Campo López, in order to have a guaranteed water supply before any fire, not only forestry.

The Mayor, Fulgencio Gil, has stressed that the forest wealth and the ecosystem of our municipal area constitute a heritage that we must conserve with all the effort required.

Currently an important part of the forests of Murcia are located in Lorca with three large cores, such as the mountain ranges from Gigante to La Culebrina, the Sierra del Madroño and the Cambrón, as well as the pre-coastal strip of Almenara-Carrasquilla, approximately a total of 89,993 hectares of forest area.

According to the INFOMUR Plan, it is set as a period of high risk period from June 1 to September 30, establishing, for this, from the City of Lorca, a permanent service during the most susceptible time slot. produce a real fire situation.

From the Department of Emergencies attending the risk of forest fires, as well as the vulnerability of our territory in front of these accidents, one more year, it sets up preventively, during the time of maximum danger, two patrols of surveillance and detection of forest fires of Civil Protection, forming part of the Detection and Warning Group of the INFOMUR Plan, in order to cover the dark areas of visibility of the fixed posts, while at the same time deterring situations that may entail forest fire danger.
