El Paso Blanco will celebrate the centenary of the Prayer Standard in the Garden with an extraordinary procession and different cultural activities throughout the city (03/07/2018)

The "Cloth of the Flowers" is an embroidery declared of Cultural Interest, which was elaborated at the beginning of the last century under the direction of Emilio Felices Barnés at the short or Felices point, a novel procedure that consisted of arranging, starting from a perfectly detailed pre-design, small horizontal and consecutive silk stitches

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, and the president of the Most Illustrious Council of Our Lady, Our Lady of Bitterness Paso Blanco, Lazaro Soto, this morning presented the acts that this Lorca fraternity will perform to commemorate the centenary of the Standard of Prayer in the Garden.

Fulgencio Gil said that "the brotherhood wanted to celebrate the centenary of its premiere with a series of commemorative events that will last until Holy Week in 2019. The most important, participatory and representative of these acts will be the extraordinary procession to be held on Saturday, October 6, where the Standard and the sculpture of the Christ of Prayer in the Garden will process from the Chapel of the Rosary to the Plaza of Spain, where a solemn Eucharist will be celebrated by D. José Manuel Lorca Planes, bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena In this procession will participate different Spanish brotherhoods of Prayer in the Garden with their respective banners, which will later pass to the Embroidery Museum of Paso Blanco, to be part of a temporary exhibition.

The Mayor of Lorca stressed that "during the months of October to December this year is planned to hold concerts, exhibitions, floral arts and activities very illustrious Cabildo de Nuestra Señora de la Amargura Paso Blanco didactic and informative of which All the activities will have a participative character, both for the whites and for all the citizens of Lorca, so it is planned that they take place in different areas of our city .The events will culminate with the publication of a book where different collaborations will be collected from qualified authors who will frame the "Cloth of the flowers" in its historical, social, cultural, artistic and evidently, the Holy Week of Lorca.The presentation of this book will close the commemorative acts projected to commemorate the centenary of the Standard of Prayer in the Garden ".

The Standard of Prayer in the Garden was embroidered under the direction of Emilio Felices Barnés in the period between 1915 and 1918. The prestige and the artistic category of this embroidery, made it become a reference for Lorca embroidery and that was declared Well of Cultural Interest in March 2005 by the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia.

The embroidery, of exceptional quality, refined beauty and harmony of colors, was elaborated at the beginning of the last century in Felices short or point, a novel procedure that consisted in having, from a perfectly detailed previous design, small horizontal silk stitches and consecutive.

This piece is also known as the "Cloth of Flowers" for the spectacular floral border that surrounds the scene of Christ praying in the Garden of Gethsemane, the first painful mystery of the Holy Rosary and, therefore, of profound significance for the Archconfraternity of Our Lady Lady of the Rosary.

In principle this embroidery was designed to decorate the lower face of the canopy of the Virgen de la Amargura, but after its completion and premiere it was adapted as a banner by José Cánovas Hernández, debuting in 1928.
