The Mayor emphasizes that the first phase of the large meat complex will exponentially increase the opportunities for growth and progress of the entire livestock sector Lorca (05/07/2018)

The City Council, through Aguas de Lorca, approves an investment of more than one million euros that will provide a new sanitary sewer to both these facilities and others nearby and will have a length of close to 2 kilometers.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, has set as an example of future investment the initiative led by a group of entrepreneurs in the livestock sector that is enabling the construction of a modern meat industry complex, whose first phase is in a state of works very advancing.

In fact, the objective of the promoters is to complete the phase in execution before the end of this year.

We are talking about facilities that will work, according to the forecasts that are handled, about 350 employees.

The challenge that has been raised is to enter into operation within this same year, once the works are completed.

Fulgencio Gil explained that this first phase entails an investment of 32 million euros, and includes quartering rooms for pork carcasses, meat packing, freezing, a dynamic storage of frozen products 32 meters high and a space reserved for shipping.

For the execution of these facilities, its promoters acquired a cement industry that left the city a plot of 300,000 m2, an area that will be ordered by a partial municipal plan.

The first phase comprises an area of approximately 30,000 m2 on which the main building is built, while another area of almost 100,000 m2 is used for parking and vehicle access for transport.

The Mayor has anticipated that the forecasts suggest that the first phase, after the corresponding period of set-up usual in this type of large-scale industries, will allow the daily cutting of 4,000 pigs, which will mean 1 million copies each year.

The facilities will have the capacity to store 200 tons of frozen meat daily.

These are figures that ratify the ambition with which this project starts, designed to conquer meat industry markets nationwide and export to the whole world.

The First Edil has pointed out that during these days work has been done on the construction of the storage silo for frozen goods, which will remain at a temperature of -20 °, and in whose work the use of 80 concrete trucks has been required, which it involves more than 800 m3 of concrete.

This silo will have a capacity for 7,500 pallets of meat products, which translates into 5 million kilos.

Fulgencio Gil has stated that the objective that will be achieved with the construction of this industry is to reach the most modern production levels to exponentially raise the possibilities of development of the pig sector of our region, which is currently on track to become the largest power of the country's cattle ranch, together with Catalonia.

This meat complex places Lorca at the forefront of Spain, and will allow our pig farmers to open new opportunities for growth and empowerment of their farms.

Our city is being endowed, thanks to the initiative of these entrepreneurs, of a future equipment, called to become an engine of industrial development and a factor of progress for the livestock sector both in our municipality and in the localities for which we are subregional capital and county seat.

The Mayor has stressed the commitment to Lorca that involves the construction of this new meat plant, which will offer all the guarantees, both technical and hygienic-sanitary required by the latest international regulations.

It should be noted that the works began last April with the movement of some 500,000 tons of land, and the promoting entity includes the companies Alia, Alimer, Juan Jiménez García and several shareholders.

The forecast that is handled by the promoters, who market their products under the brands Campocarne, La Comarca and Sierra Almenara, is to begin the work of the second phase of these facilities once the current one is underway at full capacity.

It will then be when the current slaughter area is moved.

From the City Council, mainly through the area of Urban Planning, will continue to accelerate all the processing required by law to promote the smooth running of the works.

In fact in recent dates, and by Aguas de Lorca, has proceeded to approve an investment of more than one million euros to provide this area with a new sanitary sewer that is expected to have a diameter of up to 600 mm and an extension that is around 2 kilometers.
