IU-Verdes Lorca asks for more lifeguards in the Felipe VI sports complex so that its users do not have to swim "by elbow" (10/07/2018)

Those of the City of the Sun are the most expensive public heated pools of the Region of Murcia.

However, when the summer season arrives, its users suffer the closure of 75% of its facilities due to the refusal of the municipal government team to hire staff

The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes, Gloria Martin, has denounced that users of the public heated pool of the Sports Complex Europe are forced to swim with elbows, due to the refusal of the PP municipal government team to hire lifeguards during the months of summer.

The poor sports offer at this time of year is bloody compared to the high price of the bathroom.

And, with an entrance of 4.70 euros, those of the Ciudad del Sol are the most expensive public heated pools in the Region of Murcia.

Take as examples the three euros that cost to use this type of facilities in Totana, 3.10 in Cartagena or 3.20 in Alhama.

The problem is due to the fact that, when summer arrives, the Department of Sports imposes the closure of one of the two heated swimming pools with which the urban center of Lorca, that of San Antonio, has.

But it is that, "with the regrettable intention of saving the salary of a lifeguard," also closes one of the two glasses available to the pool of the Felipe VI complex, Martín explained.

"The only thing is that if they can only enjoy half of the facilities, they lower the price of the bathroom," he demanded.

The mayor of IU has been able to see in the first person the discomfort of these swimmers and their complaints about the worsening of the service during the summer period.

He also assured that the opening of the summer swimming pools of the La Torrecilla Sports Complex can not serve as an excuse for the closure of the heated ones, since the profile of its users is very different.

La Torrecilla is visited mainly with a playful spirit, while those who go to indoor pools do so interested in sports and training.

On the other hand, for Martin, the aspirations that Lorca becomes a tourist reference are incompatible with the PP's commitment to leave in "minimum services" the City Council when the summer season comes.

In that sense, wanted to remind the PP government team that the fact that its members go on vacation, does not mean that many Lorca do not stay in our city on these dates, either because they have to work or because they can not afford to travel.

"It is unfair to punish them with the emptying of services and activities that depend on the Consistory," complained the councilor of IU.
