IU criticizes the passivity of the administrations to avoid future avenues and floods (07/08/2018)

Sosa also demands forcefulness to PP and PSOE so that they fulfill the commitments acquired with the affected

Pedro Sosa, a spokesman for Izquierda Unida Verdes in the municipality of Lorca, warned this morning at a press conference that the terrible consequences of the flood of 2012 may be repeated if the actions promised to those affected are not carried out, but of which you never knew.

After the time elapsed and alerted by the concern of the AAVV of Campillo and Torrecilla and those affected by the floods of 2012, Sosa requested on March 7 of this year, together with the aforementioned associations, a meeting with Mr. Ródenas, president at that time of the CHS, so that they could transfer the status of the actions they undertook to do to avoid the terrible consequences of the flood of 2012, but did not even deign to respond to them.

After the change of government in the nation, Mr. Mario Urrea has been appointed as president of the CHS, to which he has again requested an urgent meeting with those affected, given the proximity of possible torrential rains.

"Six years have passed and nothing has been done," said Sosa, despite repeated announcements by political groups that govern national, regional and local investment administrations for actions that have not yet materialized, such as that of a "splitter". at the height of the path of Riders of the Béjar ravine, which would prevent the flood of La Torrecilla and that does not involve technical complications, or a bulky budget and that in Lorca there has been more than enough money for investment, but nefastamente prioritized.

Therefore, both socialist spokesman, Mr. Mateos, who recently has strongly requested the cleaning of the ramblas near the city, as the popular government team, Sosa demand the same force to urge the new president of the CHS to come to Lorca to meet with those affected and know firsthand their fears and the actions they demand on the ground.

"It is not the weed the main problem to avoid floods, but to give an effective solution to the water that falls in tornado, as unfortunately we could verify that fateful September 2012", said Sosa.

To both, PP and PSOE, who are the ones who govern the different administrations, Sosa reproaches them to stop selling milongas, and to assume once and for all the following commitments that they reached unanimously in the IU motion of February of this year and which demanded the next:

That the City of Lorca, urge the Regional Government so that as soon as possible start the works of expansion of the viaducts of drainage on the Rambla de Biznaga roads RM-11 (Lorca-Águilas highway) and RM-621 (old road of Águilas), work that is projected and awarded.

That the City of Lorca, urge the Government of Spain to prioritize the actions contained in Royal Decree 18/2016 of January 15, which approves the flood risk management plans of the river basin districts, including the one of the Segura, in those referring to the Guadalentín Valley.

Prioritizing the construction of rolling dams in the ravines of Nogalte, Béjar and Torrecilla, as well as the necessary drainage channels to Rambla de Biznaga, for draining water from these areas.

That the City of Lorca, together with the Regional Government develop an institutional campaign to raise awareness among the local population about the risk of flooding and ways of acting before, during and after a flood, especially among the school population.

That on the part of the competent administrations in the planning and management of the territory, a coherent and rational urban practice is carried out where the special territorial conditions of the area in regard to the risk of flooding are taken into account: application of land uses and planning figures, licensing and exhaustive control in the performance of actions in the public and private domain.
