The Councilor for Local Development of the City of Lorca, Sandra Martínez Navarro, has reported on the renovation of the traditional laundry of the hamlet of Zarzadilla de Totana that has been undertaken in recent months by the beneficiaries of various training programs developed by the Consistory.
Martinez has announced that "with this renewal we respond to a neighborhood demand, the laundry is an element that is an inherent part of the cultural tradition of this deputation and the whole of the Highlands of Lorca for which we are proud to have been able to renew and put it in value for the use and enjoyment of the neighbors, and in addition to continuing to fulfill its traditional work is also a meeting point for residents in this deputation.
The laundry room is a ground floor building with lateral load-bearing walls supporting wooden trusses that form a gable roof.
It has three access doors, two on the front and one on the side;
On the side walls there are translucent glass block windows, which allows its illumination during the day.
The interior is formed by two longitudinal corridors and a water reservoir in the central zone adapted in its sides to perform the washing tasks of clothes;
It is divided into several pools where the spring water comes through the gutter.
The building is equipped with lighting to be used also during the night.
As for the actions taken, the Edil has detailed that in the exterior "the access square has been paved with gray stone slab material, the steps have been adapted in the main façade, a stone plinth has been placed and The rest of the building has been painted in. As for the interior, new anti-slip flooring has been installed, a stone base has been installed, the small defects of the pools have been cleaned and repaired, the PVC tube has been replaced by a metal gutter and the existing lighting has been replaced by low-consumption led lamps and spotlights ".
The work has been undertaken during the last 6 months, with a budget of 5,000 euros.
As for the operators who have undertaken, Martínez Navarro has indicated that they have been "24 students and 6 monitors of different programs developed by the Department of Local Development."
