IU-V warning of the lack of maintenance of the bridges over Guadalentín as it passes through Lorca (22/08/2018)

The municipal spokesman of IU-V, Pedro Sosa, has called this morning to the local media to publicly warn about the state in which the bridges that save the Guadalentín channel as it passes through the city of Lorca.

The press conference was offered on the pedestrian platform of the bridge that connects the center of the city with the San Diego neighborhood, since in this infrastructure four large expansion joints are visible, which, like scars on the asphalt, cross over Side by side the road without any protection that cushions the passage of cars and prevents the leakage of water.

Sosa confesses that after the unfortunate accident in Genoa with the collapse of the Morandi Bridge, which caused several dozen days ago in that Italian city, road technicians from the autonomous community of Murcia have turned to their political training to make them see the municipal neglect of these infrastructures.

There is a more than obvious lack of maintenance that, in the end, says Sosa, could be infinitely more expensive than regular and standardized attention, and, as we see, not only in economic terms.

The mayor of IU-V argues that the technicians consulted say that the lack of protection of the expansion joints could be structurally damaging the bridges and that it is urgent that technicians from the Department of Public Works review the state of these infrastructures and undertake the work of protection on the expansion joints that are necessary.

In this sense, he will demand it at the next municipal plenary session through an initiative that will be addressed to councilman Ángel Meca.

Among the bridges to be reviewed Sosa affirms that the priority is on the San Diego Bridge, but that there are also deficiencies in the old bridge of San Cristóbal and in the bridge, which has been propped up for years, which saves the Rambla de Tiata in the direction of Huerto de la Rueda.
