Fulgencio Gil: "The City Council of Lorca will always be next to the neighbors of Campillo and Torrecilla in the search for solutions to avoid new floods" (22/08/2018)

The CARM will begin in the coming weeks the works of expansion of the drainage, collection and evacuation of the rainwater of the ravine of Biznaga, which will double the drainage capacity of the same.

In addition, the construction of two rolling dams, one in the area of the Béjar ravine and another in Nogalte, giving continuity to the project initiated by the CHS, will also help to avoid damage to possible floods

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, has informed this morning that according to sources of the Ministry of Development, the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia will begin in the coming weeks the works of expansion of drainage, collection and evacuation of rainwater from the Rambla de Biznaga, which will double the drainage capacity and thus avoid the effects and damages from possible floods.

The works will consist of increasing the number of arches that support the regional roads RM-11 (Lorca-Águilas) and RM-621 (Lorca-Purias) that cross the Rambla de Biznaga.

This was announced today by the Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, during a meeting with neighbors of Campillo and La Torrecilla which was also attended by the Delegate of the Government in the Region of Murcia, Diego Conesa, and the president of the Segura Hydrographic Confederation, Mario Urrea.

Fulgencio Gil stressed that "the City of Lorca will always be next to the neighbors of Campillo and Torrecilla looking for solutions to the problems of the neighbors these areas to avoid damage before possible flooding.

One of these solutions is reflected in works that will soon start the Department of Development, which have an investment of 2 million euros, and are very important for Lorca, who has suffered in previous times the effects of strong floods that have shown the need to increase their capacity again.

The City of Lorca has the objective, together with the Regional Government, to continue investing in improving the districts of Lorca and to provide a solution to the situation of the ravine so that there are no possible disasters in this area as occurred with the flooding of the 2012 ".

The Mayor of Lorca, in this sense, has indicated that "the Rambla de Biznaga has special conditions, since it collects the waters of the Ramblas de la Torrecilla, Béjar and part of the Nogalte, which makes it possible to reach a very important flow, as happened in the San Wenceslao flood when Nogalte evacuated 2,400 m3 and Béjar 1,800 m3 of water.

In addition, it does not have a well defined channel and its drainage capacity has been reduced over the years in the vicinity of the Lorca-Águilas highway ".

Gil added that "giving continuity to the project that started the Segura Hydrographic Confederation, it is important that all administrations work together to create infrastructures that allow us to retain rainwater in order to avoid situations such as those produced in 2012. The creation of two rolling dams, one in the area of the Béjar ravine and another in Nogalte, would be another good solution to the problems faced by the residents of the Lorca orchard, although it should be noted that Béjar is more administratively advanced.

When raining torrentially these ravines carry large amounts of water in their flows, so the construction of these dams would receive much of that water, which could later be used for irrigation. "

The First Edil, in this sense, explained that "as the new president of the CHS has said the solution to the problem of the neighbors is at the headwaters of the ravines of Nogalte and Béjar, that is why it is so important to carry out These hydraulic infrastructures are linked to the creation of 21 rolling dykes that the Segura Hydrological Confederation carried out a few years ago in Nogalte.
