The XXIX edition of the International Folklore Festival "Virgen de las Huertas" will have the participation of groups from Georgia, Romania, Kenya and Lorca (30/08/2018)

The Councilor for Culture of the City of Lorca, Agustín Llamas, and the President of Choirs and Dances Virgen de las Huertas, Mari Huertas García, presented this morning the XXIX edition of the Folklore Festival "Virgen de las Huertas", which as it has been habitual is celebrated in our city on the occasion of the festivities in honor of the Virgen de las Huertas, patroness of Lorca.

Agustín Llamas explained that "in this twenty-ninth edition of the festival, which will be held on September 6 and 7, you can enjoy Georgian folk groups (Song and Dance. Rioni Ensemble), Romania (Asamblea Folcloric Siretul) and Kenya. (Compagnie Folk Taffi Dancers), in addition to the Virgen de las Huertas Choirs and Dances, among them more than 100 people will pass through the stage set for the occasion in the Plaza Sabio in the incomparable setting of the Patronal Sanctuary ".

The Councilman of Culture has indicated that "the acts will begin on Thursday, September 6 at 11 am with a parade of participating groups from the Visitors Center of La Merced to the palace of Guevara through Cava street, the Plaza de España , Alamo Street, Corredera Street, Alporchones and Lope Gisbert, Immediately afterwards, the reception of the aforementioned groups will take place in the Palacio de Guevara, that same day, but in the afternoon, at 9:30 p.m. session of the International Festival "Virgen de las Huertas" in the Plaza Rey Sabio ".

Llamas added that "the next day, at 9:30 p.m., will be the closing of this XXIX edition of the FIF with the performance of the participating groups that will show all Lorca the most typical dances of their countries. On September 8 at 9 pm, the group of choirs and dances Virgen de las Huertas proposes to all Lorca to go to the Plaza del Rey Sabio in order to dance a Jota Lorquina in honor of Santa María la Real de las Huertas , thus rendering homage to the Patroness just before entering her temple after the procession celebrated on the occasion of her Onomastics. "

El Edil de Cultura has congratulated this folkloric group "for the work of recovery and dissemination of our traditions that have been carried out for so many years along with the programming of important multicultural acts such as this festival, which allow the Lorca culture to be disseminated so that it arrives to very diverse places around the world. "

IV Photography Contest

For the fourth consecutive year, Choirs and Dances "Virgen de las Huertas" launches a photo contest, consisting of portraying in the best possible way the acts that take place during the festival.

In this way, the winning photo becomes the image of the poster announcing next year's festival.

In addition, this contest has a first prize of € 200 and a second prize of 100. The bases will be available in the social networks of the group.
