The PSOE warns that the lack of parking will end up taking bill to the shops of Alameda de Cervantes (06/09/2018)

The Socialists demand that the Mayor take advantage of the authorized extension until the end of September to review the project and proceed to enable as many parking spaces as possible, so as not to condemn neighbors and merchants to have no place to park their vehicles.

The councilor of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, Antonio Navarro has highlighted the main deficiencies that have the works of Alameda de Cervantes, including the lack of parking, the indiscriminate felling of trees and the bottleneck that goes to assume the level crossing, among others.

Navarro recalls that the integral renovation works that are being carried out in the Alameda de Cervantes and adjacent spaces, were awarded in July 2017 for 3.2 million euros and with an execution period of 12 months, although it was subsequently granted an extension that ends at the end of September, so it notes that "the Mayor still has time to rectify and solve the deficiencies that present and demanding neighbors and merchants," as he did with the radar, the social room of San Pedro or the restriction of access to the beaches of Calnegre.

The socialist mayor says that when the presentation of the remodeling project of Alameda de Cervantes by the City Council and the CARM was made, the neighbors were assured that no parking would be lost, something very far from the reality underlined- since they are more of 150 the car parks that are going to "disappear" when the works are finished, more than 150 neighbors are the ones who will not have where to park their vehicles, because we must remember, that especially in the area of La Isla, there are no car parks in buildings and all vehicles have to park on the surface.

Navarro says that to make large sidewalks in a space previously bounded by existing buildings there is only one formula, "remove parking" regrets, and this is what has been used since the project lacked a previous study of traffic.

Therefore, he assures us that we will have large sidewalks, but empty sidewalks, because the result of those large sidewalks and the loss of the only parking lots we will find neighbors who have nowhere to park and with which the shops in the area They will lose their customers if they have nowhere to park, looking for other shops in more comfortable and accessible places.

To all this is added the indiscriminate felling of the trees of great size existing before the beginning of the works and that made the area a pleasant and fresh place.

On the other hand for the socialist mayor is incompressible that, after making such an important investment for one of the accesses to the city with the highest density of traffic, the level crossing of Alameda de Cervantes continues to remain in the same conditions, "making bottleneck for traffic and forcing pedestrians who pass by the right margin to invade the road as it passes through it ".

This circumstance is the result of the lack of planning of the PP Government team in the planning of the works, and remember that the City did not request in time and form to ADIF the corresponding permits and authorizations to include in the project the conditioning of the same, fact that caused the paralysis of the works shortly after its inception.

In this sense, Navarro has announced that the current Government Delegate, Diego Conesa, knows the situation and the conditions in which, due to the mismanagement of the City Council with ADIF will be the step at Cervantes level after the works, so that underlines, that has shown their interest to mediate with ADIF to give an effective solution to the strangulation that this will continue to produce after the works.

Finally, the socialist mayor points out that, not having completed the works due to the delays that accumulate, still "we are in time to recover the parking spaces lost" and not condemn for life to neighbors and businesses to have no space where to park their vehicles, therefore, requires the City Council "to review the project and enable all possible spaces for parking the car park."
