IU supports the demands of the mothers and fathers of the students of the Special Education School Pilar Soubrier (10/09/2018)

Gloria Martin has agreed with the PSOE the presentation of a motion at the next Plenary, an initiative that hopes to join all the municipal groups.

Through it, they will ask the regional government to meet the demands of this group and put an end to the serious deficiencies of a center that serves 142 children from all over the region with special educational needs.

The councilor of Izquierda Unida-Verdes de Lorca, Gloria Martín, has shown the support of her political education to the mothers and fathers of the students of the Public School District of Special Education Pilar Soubrier, who this morning have concentrated on the doors of the center for protest the very serious deficiencies that affect them.

Martín has dismissed as "inadmissible" that there are about twenty vacant and unoccupied staff in a center that cares for 142 children between three and 21 years old with special educational needs.

The mayor of IU-Greens explained that, for example, in the afternoon shift there are only three assistants working out of the eight that the staff contemplates, which means that they are "absolutely overwhelmed" and it is practically impossible to guarantee the safety of the students .

Precisely for this reason, some parents have decided not to take their children to school until this shortage of staff is solved.

The AMPA also highlights that the students of this school suffer different degrees of affectation and that there are school children with serious behavior disorders that require special attention during the 24 hours a day to avoid self-harm or assault the staff or colleagues.

The lack of professionals, especially the dependents of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, prevents adequately treating these children despite being a "center of preferred action" so the casualties that occur should be covered "immediately," said Martin.

Respecting this last issue, mothers and fathers also regret that the interim staff lacks sufficient qualifications or does not have experience to work with students with special educational needs.

They have also expressed their concern that IU shares an "outdated, obsolete and inoperative" management model that is turning the school into a "psychiatric center" that does not even guarantee the approach of girls and boys to their families and their environment.

"There are kids who are 80 kilometers away from theirs and this happens because the regional government does not invest in socio-educational resources for the normalization and integration of these children and young people," lamented Martin.

For all these reasons, Izquierda Unida has agreed with the PSOE to present a motion at the next Plenary to which they hope that all the municipal groups will join.

Through it, they will ask the regional government to meet the demands of the AMPA and to end the serious shortcomings of Pilar Soubrier.
