The second section of the Central Round of Lorca will cross the river Guadalentín with a new bridge (14/09/2018)

This road, financed by the Community with 3.6 million, will act as an alternative route to the central road axis that runs along the avenues of Juan Carlos I and Europe.

The second section of the Central Round of Lorca, which will connect the first section in the neighborhood of San Diego and Santa Clara Avenue, will cross the Guadalentín River with a new bridge of 116 meters in length and a width of 21.5 meters.

It will be equipped with two lanes of 3.5 meters per direction, sidewalks, double bike lanes and three bays to increase drainage in times of heavy rain.

This stretch will be a high capacity road and will act as an alternative route to the axis between Juan Carlos I avenues and Europe, where frequent traffic retentions frequently occur and its road capacity is exceeded.

Its construction will "significantly improve the road safety of pedestrians, traffic, comfort of drivers and traffic times," said the Minister of Development and Infrastructure, Patricio Valverde, during his visit to the works together to the mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil.

The performance will last for 9 and a half months.

"We work with the objective that the new stretch be in service for the summer of next year 2019," Valverde advanced.

The work involves an investment of 3.6 million euros.

"The Central Round of Lorca is the most important work of the new Lorca for its social and economic relevance to the city and because it serves a historical claim of Lorca to improve travel around the city," said Valverde.

The global investment of this new road axis amounts to about 28 million.

It will decongest the center of the city

The counselor stressed that the second section of the Central Round, will absorb a traffic of 7,000 vehicles a day to decongest the downtown area.

The route is 422 meters, which begins at the roundabout projected on the first section and ends with the connection to Santa Clara Avenue.

In addition to the bridge, a new roundabout will be built at the intersection on the Camino de Cartagena and the junction of the river Guadalentín and a traffic light intersection will be conditioned in its connection with Santa Clara Avenue to facilitate all movements.

All the services will also be replaced, some 40 LED-type luminaires and almost 200 units of trees will be installed.
