Juan Javier Jiménez and Mª Victoria Soler win in the Longest Trail of Peñarrubia Lorca more participatory (16/09/2018)

435 runners entered in what is one of the most spectacular mountain races in the peninsular southeast that paid tribute this year to Regino Rodríguez Bermejo |

The Peñarrubia Lorca Trail is one of the most attractive tests not only of the agenda of the Games or the local sports calendar;

Both its sports virtues, its social and recreational part and, of course, its solidary objective, make the Peñarrubia a mountain event of regional and national relevance, which is more and which is called to continue acquiring prominence in the circuit of trails of Spain.

The success of this seventh edition, organized by the Department of Sports, the Federation of Mountaineering of the Region of Murcia and APAT Lorca confirms it once again, since 435 runners were registered in it (in the first edition were 60) and They took part in a historic day.

It should be noted that it was also a day to remember;

and this year the test was called "Grand Prix Regino Rodríguez Bermejo" as a tribute to this beloved mountain runner who died this summer and who was remembered at various times during the day.

The key of the Peñarrubia Lorca Trail is that it offers an attractive route through the Sierra de la Peñarrubia, through a unique natural framework, challenging the runners for their unevenness.

The circuit is more than consolidated in its modality of Short Trail, 12'3 kms.

and positive slope of 700 meters, as in the Largo, 24'2 kms.

and positive elevation of 1,600 meters.

On this occasion, and as a result of heavy rains during the day on Saturday, from the organization it was decided to shorten the route in 1'1 kms.

of the Long Trail in order to avoid the runners passing through the Rambla de la Quintilla for safety reasons.

At 9 there was the official exit from the Rambla de las Señoritas in La Viña.

The runners participating in the Short Trail launched themselves towards the Rambla del Pino to tour the Mirador del Valle, the Sendas del Cazador and La Canalica, Las Viñas, the Escarambrujo, Las Salicas, the Path of Cejo and Los Pilones, returning to the Mirador del Valle, Rambla del Pino and finish at the finish line located at the same starting point.

In this category the male winner was the Lorca Raul Ferra Murcia Club Koovee with a time of 01:10:08, while the first woman was Karin Hilstad Opptur Motbakkerlubb with a time of 01:24:03.

As for the challenging Long Trail, it began with the same route as the Short Trail, to later take the Path of the Hunter and the Peñarrubia trail to ascend to the geodesic vertex and face the Ethiopian Trail, Los Colorados, Rambla del Cambrón and Cejo valley, where the trip was avoided by the aforementioned boulevard.

From there they continued through La Ramblica, Fuente del Hilo, the Peñarrubia forest track, the Zorro, Hunter and La Canalica trails, Las Viñas, Escarambrujo, Las Salicas and El Cejo, to undertake the return to the finish line through Los Pilones, the Mirador del Valle and the Rambla del Pino until Las Señoritas.

In the absolute masculine the winner was Juan Javier Jiménez Oller from Pasion Albox with a record tiempazo of 02:04:40.

In the women's category, the winner was the local María Victoria Soler Jiménez of the Blade Runners Calasparra, stopping the clock at 02:58:27.

But there is an incentive in this test that surpasses the sport: its component of solidarity.

Because we must not forget that the proceeds go to the Association of Parents of the Early Care Center of Lorca (APAT) so they can continue working for the benefit of children.

In exchange for the effort of the runners, the APAT volunteers spent the whole day preparing the playful part of the event that ended with a convivial meal to celebrate their solidarity and sports success.
