The PSOE requests that the two lanes of Avenida Juan Carlos I be one-way as a measure to alleviate the continuous traffic jams (27/09/2018)

Mateos says that reality has shown that the circulation model imposed for Avenida Juan Carlos I by the Popular Party's efforts has turned out to be a failure.

The PSOE proposed in 2016, before the remodeling works began, that Avenida Juan Carlos I was a one-way street

The Spokesman of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, Diego José Mateos has requested that the possibility be studied that Juan Carlos I Avenue is one way for the circulation of vehicles, at least, up to the middle of the Avenue, as a measure to decongest the continuous traffic jams that are daily recorded in the main artery of the city.

Mateos says that the circulation model imposed by the Popular Party on Avenida Juan Carlos I has turned out to be an "authentic failure", and therefore calls for a new traffic study to alleviate the chaos that Daily is recorded on the Avenue.

The Socialist spokesman says that the start of the course and the return of thousands of Lorca to the city after the summer season has highlighted the need to rethink the design of circulation in Avenida Juan Carlos I, in his opinion, passes by the establishment of the two lanes with a single direction, instead of the current double.

In the same way, Mateos requests the rethinking of the circulation system also of the adjacent streets such as Poeta Carlos Mellado, Presbyter Emilio García, Musso Valiente, Floridablanca, Eugenio Úbeda and Santa Clara, with the aim of improving the current scheme.

Mateos assures that there are traffic studies on the table that already warned of these and other issues.

In fact, in 2016, the PSOE already included these proposals in their dossier that contributed towards the remodeling of Juan Carlos I Avenue. Proposals based on four major blocks of action: the relaunching of the commercial fabric;

the improvement of circulation and functionality;

the renewal of urban aesthetics;

and new and improved urban services for the Avenue, and that, once again, were directly ignored by the Popular Party.

In addition, Mateos claims the authorization of more bus stops, as well as areas destined for loading and unloading, as the absence of them is a direct cause of the continuous traffic retentions, especially during rush hour.

The Socialist Spokesman considers "incomprehensible" that in an avenue, of a fundamentally commercial nature, areas destined for loading and unloading were not enabled at the time, hindering the work of these workers, and at the same time propitiating traffic jams.

Mateos assures that these and other claims could have been "detected and corrected" in advance, if the Popular Party had shown the project of works.

However, and days after knowing the sentence by which a court has condemned this City Council for denying information to the PSOE on this file, the Popular Party still does not make public this project.

"What they will have to hide," insists Mateos, "to continue to deny us the possibility of having in our possession a project that must be public because, among other things, it is paid for with public money."
