The PSOE proposes the celebration of a Spanish Golden Age theater festival and a monologue contest to enrich Lorca's cultural offer (05/10/2018)

The councilor of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, María Antonia García Jiménez has proposed the celebration of a Spanish Golden Age theater festival, taking advantage of the fact that next year 2019 marks the 500th anniversary of the publication of Fuenteovejuna by Lope de Vega, masterpiece of classical theater, and the 30th anniversary of the rehabilitation of the War Theater.

For the celebration of both ephemerides, García Jiménez claims a city committed to our classics, so he urges the Department of Culture to organize and convene a Festival of Spanish Golden Age Theater, where Lorca and visitors can enjoy in our city of works of our authors of the XVII Century.

To do this, he gives as an example the most important event in Spain, with similar characteristics, and one of the most authorized in Europe and Latin America, such as the International Classical Theater Festival of Almagro.

A regional contest of monologues

Another proposal that the PSOE propose to continue enriching the cultural offer in the municipality is the holding of a regional contest of monologues.

García Jiménez has exposed that it is a demand of the group of theater actors and actresses of the Region of Murcia, since to date the Community does not have a Contest of Monologues, as it exists in other communities.

The socialist mayor says that this would be a very good opportunity for Lorca to cover that gap, because they are performances of great interest to the public.

In this way, they would strengthen the cultural offer of Lorca, and put us on the map of cities of lovers of the performing arts.

For this reason, García Jiménez asks the Councilor for Culture to study this proposal, and through the cultural officials and specifically those of the Theater, a monologue contest will be held with the bases that they consider most appropriate, taking as reference events of this type like those of Tomelloso, Vallecas or the Cabildo de Canarias.

García Jiménez asks the Councilor for Culture not to miss the call for grants to continue the work of archaeological recovery in the vicinity of the Synagogue

The socialist mayor has shown concern to ignore if the Councilor for Tourism has proceeded to compete in this regional call to obtain funding in order to continue with archaeological interventions and work in the vicinity of the Synagogue.

The call itself in terms of subsidies, states that they are charged to the budget line for the year 2018, and 90% of the total project submitted is financed, with a limit of 100,000 euros.

The limit of presentation of the applications is 20 working days from its publication in the BORM, on September 20, and it is unknown if it has already been done or is being worked on.
