Lorca is a unique, wide, varied, fabulous municipality, but often unknown even to its own inhabitants.

With the aim of publicizing some of its most enchanting natural spaces, the Night Mountain Crossing was born 40 years ago.

The Crossing is, a little bit, like Lorca itself and like the Guadalentín Sports Games that have welcomed her during her 40 years of life: unique.

It's nocturnal, yes, but sometimes some equipment has already arrived at the first light of dawn.

Here he does not win the fastest, but the most regular in completing his journey;

although, in fact, the important thing is not so much the victory as the time of coexistence and enjoyment that it offers.

And the reward for completing the tour is, in addition to personal satisfaction, a good plate of crumbs and a chocolate bowl.

The Mountain Crossing traveled this year to La Hoya, specifically to La Salud, in the vicinity of the hermitage that gives its name to this natural area that became the field on which the half thousand people who joined this 40th edition, between participants and the broad organization operation.

It was the first time that the Crossing toured this area, although the surroundings had been visited years ago.

Throughout the morning the organizing team was responsible for the assembly so that during the afternoon the passengers would arrive, divided into 75 teams participating in the different categories, to set up tents and prepare everything for this night almost awake.

It was 21 hours when the first teams were called to study the map and take the exit in 3 of the 4 categories launched in this edition.

In the Short Crossing, of 11 kms., The equipment had to cross the skirt of the Handle, to advance between pilgrims and espartos, happening through zone of pine forests to return to the Health in this circular route.

In the Family, which offers the opportunity to form large teams of parents, mothers, children, etc., participants had to travel 6 km.

circulars between the boulevards of La Salud and La Teja, finding, among other charms, natural stone steps.

And as for the Journey of Initiation, the novelty and that offered an affordable test for beginners, offered a similar route to the Familiar.

But we already said that the Travesía is unique and its organizers, Miguel Martínez "Chilaba", Juan Valverde and all the great team, had a surprise prepared: the Long Crossing reached La Salud, yes, but it started from the Plaza de Calderón.

After leaving the heart of Lorca, the travelers roamed the Caravaca Highway, crossed Carraclaca and toured the foot of La Manilla, in the Sierra de Tercia, to reach the camp after traveling more than 20 kilometers.

Teams leaving, arriving, taking crumbs, commenting on the steps, the controls, the one that was lost and the one who did not, who went to bed a little and who waited for an acquaintance to arrive, information through the walkis, equipment location , someone who has been confused, ...

In short, a complete night of sports, nature and coexistence, because that is the Mountain Crossing, which in this edition did not have great losses or shocks.

And with the arrival of the morning, the traditional lunch of coexistence and the delivery of medals to the most regular teams.

In the Family Crossing, in which 17 teams participated, he beat "Villaricos 4x4 Family", revalidating his victory of 2017 ";" Los Bleis "were second and completed the podium" Patatas Deluxe ".

In La Corta, which had the participation of 43 teams, the winners were "Espubirra";

in second place were "The Fantastic 5", while the third place went to "Follow me the good ones".

As for the Long, in which 13 teams ventured, the gold went to "Mural-K";

the silver was conquered by "Los Berrones" and the bronze was won by "Anda y no te pares".

With respect to the Initiation Crossing, two teams debuted, with the victory for "The joy of the road 1" and the second place for "The joy of the road 2", so the names of these teams were premonitions of their final classification .

But a chronicle about this activity could not end without thanking the more than one hundred people who for months prepare this activity with affection and altruism so that it continues to be a success, as well as all the volunteers who collaborate from the controls, entrance and departure, provisioning, assembly, security, and emergency teams that ensure that everything goes well.

For them it is still alive and in full form 40 years later this test.
