9,907 people have enjoyed the 40th edition of the Guadalentín Sports Games, which has offered more than 60 activities during the last 6 weeks (18/10/2018)

The Councilor for Sports of the City of Lorca, Juan Miguel Bayonas, has taken stock of the 40th edition of Guadalentín Sports Games revealing that they have been "the most numerous Games in history thanks to the participation of 9,907 people, which is a increase of 312 participants with respect to the 2017 edition, adding up to 16,256 participations ".

The mayor said that "our goal was to propose an edition of the Lorca more than special Olympics to commemorate its 40th year promoting the local sport." An ambitious cultural agenda was launched during the month of July, which included the exhibition, the anthological magazine or documentary, but with the arrival of September and the sports calendar we wanted to bet on special games, bigger and more attractive, not only sports but also social, all of which has found its answer in the massive participation of Lorca , marking a historic record of participation difficult to overcome ".

Bayonas has highlighted the popular events such as "the Walking March," which on this occasion offered a spectacular opening at the Plaza de España, where 1,886 people took part, as well as the closing ceremony through the Cycle-Walk, which was joined by 1,586 cyclists. As for popular sports we can not forget the Cejo hiking route, 651 participants, the Mountain Crossing, 351 crossers, the Popular Games and Sand Castles, 198 participants, Aquaerobic with 60 people or the Athletics on the Street that has had 464 children participating in its different sessions. "

As for the rest of activities, the council wanted to highlight tests such as "the Peñarrubia Lorca Trail with 420 runners, the Course of the University of the Sea that has had 124 students, Guidance with 246 athletes, the Trophy City of Lorca Swimming with 365 swimmers or the 203 creators who attended the Creasport Contest, we must also put in value tests that have returned to the agenda of the Lorca Olympics after years of absence as is the case of Judo that brought together 60 participants in the tribute given to Serafin Piñeiro, the Badminton who returned decades later with 23 participants, the Rallysprint of Zarcilla with 42 pilots or the Squash that brought together a score of players ".

"In the same way, we must highlight some activities aimed at special groups that make it possible to claim that everyone can enjoy sports: the Day of Sports for Integration, which counted with the participation of 165 people, the Apandis Indoor Soccer Trophy with 31 players and the Games and Sports of the 3rd Age where 301 older Lorca took part ".

Regarding the development of the calendar, Bayonas pointed out that "despite the precipitations that have fallen during these weeks, we have been able to develop the calendar almost completely, transferring those tests that were affected by the rains, especially in mid-September. Paragliding, the Beach Volleyball Tournament and the veteran Football Trophy were left without being able to perform. "

With regard to the objectives for the next editions, the councilor stressed that "we want to continue to grow and overcome the psychological barrier of the 10,000 participants, an ambitious but logical goal within the great increase in participation that the Games have reflected in the past. We have to take into account that in two years they have grown by almost 1,000 participants, 2,000 if we compare with the data of the 35th edition and almost 2,500 if we go back a decade ago. determined by female participation, which has reflected this year a maximum of more than 3,600 women participants ".
