More than 105 elderly Lorca participate in health and wellness workshops scheduled for the last quarter of the year (19/10/2018)

These are courses organized between the Lorca City Council and the La Caixa Foundation.

The objective is to improve the well-being of this group by encouraging their social participation, developing activities that contribute to improving their quality of life and offering them resources against loneliness and in favor of a good deal with them.

The Councilor for Social Welfare at the City Council of Lorca, Fátima Mínguez, together with Lourdes Toribio, Territorial Action Manager of the "la Caixa" Foundation in Murcia, and Juan Serrano, director of the "la Caixa" office in Lorca, presented the battery of decentralized courses that are being developed in our municipality thanks to the financing of La Caixa.

These are courses related to the health and well-being of our elders, and which deal with different subjects.

The main objective of these workshops is to provide older people with tools and knowledge that contribute to delaying aging, maintaining personal autonomy and improving well-being.

We are talking about workshops for a maximum of 20 people and a minimum of 8 people, which will be developed during the last months of this year.

More and more elderly people want to contribute their valuable time and experiences to society, starting with their immediate environment and also engaging with the most vulnerable, thus contributing to build a more just society and greater opportunities for all.

The objective of the Senior Program is to contribute to improving their quality of life by also providing them with information and knowledge to make important decisions in the acquisition of healthy habits that contribute to maintaining their autonomy, avoiding social exclusion and empowering the elderly as members assets of the company.

Likewise, emphasis has been placed on accompanying and supporting the most vulnerable elders, as well as providing resources to our elders to preserve their dignity and a good deal with them.

The courses that will benefit our elders, some of them already initiated, are the following:

Wake up with a smile: Duration: 6 hours (3 sessions of 2 hours).

In the sessions of the workshop the following topics are worked on: the dream, from when we woke up until nightfall and from nightfall until we woke up.

This workshop aims to contribute to wellbeing and health by trying to respond to the concerns that often arise among the elderly for not sleeping well, with the willingness to provide them with information so that they have more knowledge about the dream and its alterations, and offer strategies that Help them to get a restful night's sleep.

Get active: Duration: 8 hours (4 sessions of 2 hours), addressing issues such as Myths and realities, We improve physical health and mental activity, For a healthy lifestyle, In addition to participation.

The objective of this workshop is to show how our body works -in particular, the brain- and what are the effects of aging.

It also wants to make available to older people tools to detect the difference between natural aging and illness, in order to help understand the importance of an active life in order to enjoy greater well-being at this stage of life.

Feed your well-being: Duration: 12 hours (8 sessions of 1 hour 30 minutes), addressing healthy habits to have an adequate diet, food and its components, healthy diet and nutrition in aging.

Continuing with the objective of providing older people with the necessary tools to promote their autonomy and improve their well-being, this year a new workshop incorporates guidelines and habits to have a healthy and balanced diet to help them feel better .

Less pain, more life: Duration: 12 hours (6 sessions of 2 hours).

Workshop to promote the well-being and improvement of the quality of life of elderly people affected by pain, and elderly people not affected by pain but who want to have tools for their prevention.

It aims to help combat beliefs such as pain is an evil of age, contributing to improve the physical and emotional health of the elderly.

All sessions will be accompanied by practical activities in which therapies for pain, postural hygiene in everyday life, muscle toning for the prevention of falls, dance and relaxation will be worked out, distributed as follows:

Session 1: Know and understand what pain is and how it affects us.

Session 2: Learn to manage pain and know how to cope in different situations.

Session 3: Assume an active role in pain management.

Session 4: Become aware of the influence of psycho-emotional aspects on the perception and management of pain.

Session 5: Know the benefits of leading a healthy lifestyle through exercise, sleep and eating.

Session 6: Be aware of the importance of having good communication with family, friends and health professionals.

Train: Duration: 16 hours (8 sessions of 2 hours).

It is a preventive and healthy aging promotion workshop that promotes functional autonomy and physical activity in the elderly.

It is also a space for reflection in which the opportunity is offered to improve and / or change everyday habits of life;

physical exercise;

pain management;

the balanced diet;

the prevention of falls;

personal autonomy, and social participation.

It is especially aimed at frail elderly people or those with difficulties in carrying out activities of daily life and without serious cognitive impairments, who are users of the services of the elderly centers.

This activity consists of practical sessions in which they will help them to acquire a series of healthy habits among which we can point out tricks to improve the quality of life and incorporate healthy habits, physical activity, sharing of self-care experiences, reinforcement of autonomy personal, pain management and fall prevention.

Fit!

: Duration: 24 hours (16 sessions of 1 h 30 minutes), exposing the exercises of balance, strength and muscular power that help us improve our physical condition.

The maintenance and increase of strength and muscle power, balance and coordination to maintain a good physical shape and prevent falls are worked.

All this, through innovative methodologies such as Eurythmics, a discipline developed for music education, which for the first time is applied as an exercise for seniors, with the aim of being able to carry out activities with meaning in their lives.

Live well, feel better.

One of the keys to facing aging is to stop understanding this new stage of life as a period of losses and move on to focus on the opportunities and strengths it can offer.

A set of knowledge, techniques and psycho-emotional skills that aim to contribute to:

Promote the values ​​of dignity and autonomy in aging.

Promote knowledge and the application of strategies to contribute to personal growth and development.

Encourage reflection about achievements with meaning and value for the development of the life project of the people.

This activity foresees its development along 3 modules:

"Live as I want" whose duration is 19.5 hours (13 sessions).

The workshop helps to stop understanding this stage as a period of losses and to focus on the opportunities it offers.

In the sessions of this workshop, topics such as motivation, control of one's life, time planning, decision-making, positive thinking, relationships and the granting of permission to oneself are dealt with.

In the sessions of the workshop the following topics are worked:

1.1 My motivations.

1.2 The control of my life.

1.3 Plan and manage my time.

1.4 Making decisions.

1.5 Think positive.

1.6 My relationships.

1.7 Give yourself permission

2) "Live in positive" whose duration is 19.5 hours (13 sessions of 1 and 30 minutes).

The objective is to try to promote the values ​​of dignity and autonomy to face the aging stage, contributing to growth and personal development.

In the workshop sessions, topics such as resilience and adaptability are discussed;

psychological strengths such as wisdom, curiosity, courage, perseverance and sense of humor;

conflict prevention and management;

or feel good in solitude.

In the workshop sessions, the following topics will be worked on:

2.1 Resilience and our ability to adapt.

2.2 Psychological strengths: wisdom, courage, perseverance and a sense of humor.

Prevention and conflict management.

Feel good in society.

"Living is discovering me" whose duration is 18 hours (12 sessions of 1 hour and 30 minutes).

This activity aims to identify and promote personal resources that help people explore their own limits, grow and develop personally.

Thus, throughout the itinerary opportunities are offered to reflect and identify the possibilities provided by daily life to develop a full life, paying special attention to challenges associated with self-imposed limits, the social changes that shape new situations and the new environments of relationship.

In the sessions of the workshop the following topics are worked:

3.1 Understand vulnerability to encourage personal development.

3.2 Promote the care of oneself and others.

3.3 Develop better interpersonal and family relationships.

3.4 Approaching solitude as a key element in self-knowledge.

3.5 Value commitment in one's life.
