President Fernando López Miras attended today in Lorca to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (Sacoje) cooperative, "three decades of growth, improvement and success, during which he has gone from cultivating only 300 hectares to put into production thousands of them. "
Agricultural cooperativism in the Region of Murcia moves around 40 or 45 percent of the turnover of fresh produce in the Region.
Sacoje "is a reference for the agricultural sector" of Guadalentín, a company dedicated to the production of broccoli, lettuce and cabbage in its different varieties, as well as the cultivation of zucchini, melon, watermelon and table grapes.
"A reference and example to follow, as well as a model of innovation and job creation," said the president, since it has 245 permanent jobs, and in specific periods of the year it reaches 700. He also highlighted the commitment of this company for organic farming, with a production of more than five million kilos, and remarked that Murcia is the first province of Spain in surface organic farming, with 80,000 hectares.
"We are proud of our field and our companies," said the president, who added that "when some question the use of water in the region and deny that we lack this resource, even wanting to close the transfer, then they attack us all" .
In his opinion, "this has to end once and for all, we must be able to give a definitive solution, with more common sense and solidarity," he stressed.
He also indicated that "we want responsibility and that the water arrives where it is needed".
