Regrets that the Government of Spain "has not condoned the payment of interest derived from receiving aid" and announces "more initiatives for the central executive to be sensitive to Lorca"
The president of the Community, Fernando Lopez Miras, announced today that the regional government will give conformity to all the files of neighbors of Lorca that present the simplified account of justification of the aid for the earthquakes of 2011 within a period of five months from today.
"They asked us for the Administration to decide before May on this report justifying the aid, but we have advanced that process and we will do it in five months," stressed the president, as one of the agreements adopted at the working meeting maintained today in the City of Lorca to respond to the concerns of those neighbors who benefited from aid for the reconstruction of housing after the earthquakes of 2011 and are awaiting justification.
"We have managed to bring the agreement that my neighbors requested and needed," said Lopez Miras, who said that those who must carry out this justification will have at their disposal the help and advice of technicians from the Community and the City Council.
According to the president, the situation derived from the Lorca earthquakes of 2011 "was exceptional, and few administrations are prepared for that".
He noted that "in 24 hours something very difficult was done that was to paralyze all the embargoes", in application of Law 8/2018 promoted by the regional government, and the suspension of the 159 embargoes was notified individually.
On the other hand, in relation to the application for limitation of the right of the Community to demand the reimbursement of aid, as explained by the president, the regional government will immediately consult the legal services of the Community, notwithstanding that the prescription must be resolved on a case-by-case basis.
Another agreement reached today is that the Lorca City Council, as a collaborating entity and manager of the earthquake office, will attend to the unique files that will be dealt with in the Mixed Commission.
The process of checking the justification files will be in accordance with Law 8/2018, promoted by the regional government last July and approved by all the parliamentary groups in the Regional Assembly.
On the other hand, the president regretted that the Government of Spain "has not proceeded in the same way as the regional government condoning Lorca's payment of interest arising from receiving aid, and demanded that he do the same as the regional executive and forgive 50 percent of your share of interest. "
In this regard, he indicated that "we are going to promote more initiatives both in the regional Assembly and in the Congress of Deputies so that the Government of Spain is sensitive to what is happening in Lorca."
