The Physical Activity and Sports Program for School Age 2018/19, organized by CARM, will start in Lorca on November 15 (07/11/2018)

The Councilor for Sports of the City of Lorca, Juan Miguel Bayonas, and the Coordinator of the Sports Promotion Area, José Antonio Romera, presented this morning the program "Physical Activity and Sports in School Age", of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and that has the collaboration of the City of Lorca.

Juan Miguel Bayonas has indicated that "the program will begin on Thursday, November 15 and is aimed at young people of school age, among the objectives is to increase sports practice at school age, with special attention to the participation of school children with disabilities and at risk of exclusion, as well as promoting physical activity and sports as a vehicle for the formation of values ​​".

The Councilor for Sports has also added that "it aims to increase sports habits among the school-age population, thereby reducing the high rate of childhood obesity, and offer sports activities that meet the diversity of needs and interests of school children, with special attention to people with health or disability problems, immigrants or groups with socioeconomic difficulties ".

Bayonas has indicated that "through this program is also intended that schoolchildren perform physical activity for sports, training, educational, play or health, as well as transmit values ​​of camaraderie, fair play, rejection of doping, violence, racism, xenophobia or intolerance in physical activity and sport, eliminating roles, stereotypes and prejudices based on sex and teaching models of coexistence and respect ".

For his part, José Antonio Romera has detailed that "the phases of competition of the program of physical activity and sport in school age are the local, in which only Lorca schools participate and where the local champion and representative of the municipality will be The following phases, and the regional phase, corresponding to the quarterfinals, semifinals and final of the championship in each of the sports, are accessed by the champions of each of the groups, keeping Lorca as Group 8, with which we avoid the Intermunicipal phase. "

The categories of the School Sports program are youngest, fry, children, cadets and juveniles.

Some of the sports that are summoned are Playing Chess, Athletics, Basketball, Basketball 3x3, Handball, Badminton, Boxing, Cross Country, Cycling specialty Gymkana, Dominoes, Duathlon, Football-Hall, Football 8, Mate, Multisport, Greco-Roman Practice , Petanque, Orienteering, Rugby Touch, Table Tennis, Triathlon, Volleyball and Beach Volleyball, depending on the categories.

Romera recalled that "the meeting has already been held with the teachers of the primary and secondary schools that will participate this year, so we already know the forecast of teams that intend to present each one and we are considering the sports calendar of equipment ".

As for the calendar, it is also known that Lorca will host, for the moment, two finals, the one of the Field Through Benjamín / Alevín and the Regional Final of team sports.

It should be noted that in reference to the previous year's report, the data reflect that a total of 32 educational centers participated, with the IES José Ibañéz Martín (almost 1,200 students), Francisco Ros Giner (almost 1,000 students) and the CEIP Pasico Campillo ( more than 900) the ones with the highest number of students.

Athletics (more than 3,500 students), Cross Country (almost 3,500) and Playing Athletics (1,200 students) were the three modalities that had the most participation.

Participation has increased from 3,000 students in the 1998-1999 academic year to more than 12,500 in the previous academic year.
