The Community finances the restoration of the Holy Christ of the Good Death of the Blue Pass of Lorca (11/11/2018)

The Community, through the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, has funded the restoration of the Holy Christ of the Good Death of Lorca, a size made by José Planes in 1945 and every Good Friday paraded on the shoulders of 88 portapasos of the Brotherhood of Labradores de Lorca (Paso Azul).

The image already recovered has presided today the Eucharist celebrated in the church of San Francisco, and which has been attended by the Minister of Tourism and Culture, Miriam Guardiola.

The regional manager explained that "the restoration of this emblematic image is included in the actions carried out within the Master Plan for the Recovery of the Cultural Heritage of Lorca after the earthquakes that occurred in 2011, a plan that has become an example of good practices, effectiveness and coordination between different administrations ".

The earthquakes caused in this size several material damages, as a result of blows and collisions of rubble, which have already been solved.

Dr. Lucía Rueda, of the Lorquimur company, has been responsible for carrying out for several months, and in the same church in San Francisco, these works funded through the grant of 12,489 euros granted from Culture.

The intervention has been supervised at all times from the Restoration Center of the Region of Murcia.

In this sense, Guardiola recalled that "the Regional Restoration Center is, for years, a reference thanks to the quality of its facilities and the professionalism of its technicians."

On this occasion, he added, "we have worked together with Lorquimur to outline all the details of an intervention that has allowed the carving of the well-known as Christ Yacente has recovered all its splendor and can be admired by Lorca and the thousands of tourists who Every year they visit Lorca attracted by a Holy Week of great beauty and originality declared of International Tourist Interest ".

Intervention

The Holy Christ of the Good Death (José Planes Peñalver, 1945) stands out for its technical quality and has been awarded in various contests of religious sculpture.

Belonging to the Brotherhood of Labradors of Paso Azul de Lorca, the carving is linked to the most genuine Christological tradition in terms of the iconographic representation of one of the most intense passages of the Passion.

The restoration carried out has been complex, since it was a highly intervened work, which made any subsequent treatment difficult.

At all times we have tried not to over-alter the appearance of the image, preserving even some of the chromatic touches made in previous restorations.

The applied treatment consisted in a physical-chemical cleaning that has allowed to remove the layer of superficial dirt, a slightly oxidized varnish and very specific repaints.

All the fissures and cracks found have been sealed, and the small losses in the polychrome surface have been repaired.

After the differentiated chromatic reintegration of each of the lagoons, a final varnish was applied to protect the entire work, in order to improve its conservation.
