Lorca claims that the writing of the informative study of the connection by train with Granada is not delayed anymore (26/11/2018)

The document of the Infrastructures, Transport and Housing Plan 2012-2024 contemplates the future projection of the Lorca-Baza-Guadix branch, as new investments in the Lorca-Granada High Speed Line (LAV), included in the "Other Actions" section "-and not integrated into the Mediterranean Corridor.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, has informed that the Municipal Administration will request from the Government of Spain the bidding and writing without delay of the Informative Study of the Lorca-Baza-Guadix railway line, a document that is already included in the Law of General State Budgets for this year 2018, as well as prioritizing investments for the reopening of said line, considering it a priority infrastructure within the Ministry of Public Works.

To these requests it is added to include in the next "PGE 2019" the appropriate economic items for the financing of the investment destined to its reopening.

On September 30, 1984, the then Minister of Transportation, Tourism and Communications, Enrique Barón, presented to the Council of Ministers a proposal to suppress a series of rail lines in the national territory, among which was the Almendricos-Baza-Guadix line. , which was the only railway communication between Granada and the Region of Murcia, which was the gateway for the entire Spanish east to eastern Andalusia.

On January 1, 1985, the traffic of passengers and merchandise in many sections of the national territory was suppressed, except for those that, for reasons of regional or local interest, established agreements between RENFE and the autonomous communities or other provincial or local entities.

The Regional Government of Murcia reached an agreement with RENFE to subsidize the maintenance of the rail transport service between Murcia-Lorca-Águilas, as did the Junta de Andalucía to take charge of the Granada-Bobadilla section, thus preventing its closure .

However, the Almendricos-Baza-Guadix line of 161 km did not have the same fate, since the traffic of travelers and merchandise has been suppressed since then.

With this decision Lorca and Eastern Andalusia, were isolated by rail between them.

Only the railway line linking Granada with Madrid and Almería through Moreda remained in service.

The decision could not be more negative for the region of Guadalentín, Los Vélez, Almanzora and, in general, those corresponding to the northern municipalities of the provinces of Granada and Almería, both from a social and economic point of view.

The suppression of it was lethal for many municipalities in Murcia, Granada and Almeria, who saw their expectations of progress and development very difficult.

Recall that the railroad articulated a territory that suffered from terrible communications and that was used as a means of transporting products from the area.

On December 22, 1992, RENFE decided the definitive and total dismantling of the Guadix-Baza-Almendricos railway line, despite the numerous initiatives carried out against this decision, both in the Congress of Deputies, the Senate, and in the Parliaments. of Andalusia and Murcia.

After decades of vindications was the Government of the Popular Party, who in September 2012, sensitive to this injustice, included the Lorca-Baza-Guadix branch in its medium and long-term railway planning PITVI - 2012-2024.

The Government of the Popular Party, once overcome the budgetary difficulties, included separate parts in the General State Budgets of the years 2015 and 2016 to proceed to the preliminary and feasibility study of the Lorca-Baza-Guadix railway line.

This preliminary and feasibility study was drafted and published on the website of the Ministry of Development in August 2017. There is a "firm commitment" from the Ministry of Development and the Government of Spain of the PP to move forward in the reopening of the Lorca railway line. Baza-Guadix.

Proof of this has been the inclusion of a budget of € 600,000 in the PGE of 2018-2019, for the drafting of the Informative Study of the Lorca-Baza-Guadix railway line.

The next January 1, 2019 marks the 34th anniversary of the closure of the Lorca-Baza-Guadix railway line.

A disastrous decision for the provinces of Murcia, Granada and Almeria.

To date, there has been a radical change regarding the railroad thanks to the ambitious railway communication program that the government of Spain decided to implement from the National Infrastructure Plan.

Nowadays, nobody doubts that the railroad is a means of transport of great future in Spain and in Europe.

At present, we lack a railway connection that Lorca and our Region communicate in general with Granada, which means a loss of opportunities from a social, economic and strategic point of view.

Therefore, it would be advisable to prioritize the reopening of the Lorca-Baza-Guadix railway line, obviously with the caveats and modifications in the layout recommended by previous technical studies.
