The Blue Museum of Holy Week, MASS, will host the temporary exhibition "The Egyptian Blue" from November 30 to January 6 (28/11/2018)

The Blue Museum of Holy Week, MASS, hosts since Friday 30 November "The Egyptian Blue", the new temporary exhibition that deals with one of the most attractive and evocative themes of the processions of the Brotherhood of Farmers, Paso Azul: Pharaonic Egypt.

The exhibition has been presented by the president of the Step, José María Miñarro, the councilman of Culture of the City of Lorca, Agustín Llamas, the president of the Paso Azul Foundation, María del Sagrado Corazón García, and the curators of the same.

The exhibition offers a journey that goes from the incorporation of groups of Egyptian inspiration to the blue procession, in the nineteenth century, to its current situation in which we can observe the special relevance that this civilization has acquired within the procession, with special importance in the procession of Palm Sunday.

Spread over the different rooms of the Blue Museum, more than fifty works of art are exhibited.

Mantles and capetas belonging to groups as emblematic as the Egyptian or Ethiopian Cavalry and a score of Egyptian costumes, embroidered in silk and gold as the tradition of the Holy Week of Lorca and generously ceded by their owners, will be the great protagonists of an exhibition that will feature pieces that were made in the well-known classic period of Lorca embroidery.

"The Egyptian blue" is an opportunity to appreciate both the punctilious details of embroidered costumes with Egyptian motifs and the elements of the parade that during the procession can not be seen with as much detail as is the case of the throne of Queen Cleopatra -one Replica of the royal armchair of Tutankhamun-, or the car of Antiochus IV, an Egyptian war horse that will be located in the cloister of the Museum.

The exhibition, directed by the curators María Dolores Rodríguez Segura and Adrián Páez Martínez, is organized by the Hermandad de Labradores, Paso Azul and the Paso Azul Foundation and also has the collaboration of Dimensión Lorca, Hermanos Heredia and Mulero, Lormec SL, Tavern La Cepa, Plastibérica, El Gigante and Comarcal TV Initiatives.

The exhibition, which will be open until January 6, will be complemented by various activities related to its theme, including the children's workshops that the GuiAzul collective will hold during the last week of December, as well as the conference by Ms. Elisa Castel Ronda , founding member of the Spanish Association of Egyptology, which will deal with religion in Ancient Egypt and will take place on Friday, December 14 at the Church of San Francisco.

Explain the evolution of the groups on which the Egyptian presence is based in courtship and point out the particular perspective that Lorca has had of the art, history and culture of the country of the Pharaohs and the interpretation that has been made of these during the more than 130 years that have passed since Egypt joined the procession of Paso Azul is, in short, the purpose with which "The Egyptian blue" is born.

All this offering the best answer to the great question that Lorca and visitors are asked to see our parade: Why Egypt in a Holy Week?

The exhibition will be inaugurated this Friday, November 30 at 7:30 p.m. in the church of San Francisco.
