The City Council considers "just and of vital importance" the investments that the Irrigation Community demands from the Government of Spain to optimize the available water (11/12/2018)

Ángel Meca: "If we want to have a competitive agri-food sector, we have to support our people, every euro that is destined, our farmers multiply it, transforming it into employment, opportunities for development and promotion of the economy".

The councilor of Agriculture and Rural Development in the City of Lorca, Angel Mecca, has expressed his support "without fissures" to the request of the lorquinos irrigators for the State Society of Agricultural Infrastructures (SEIASA) to proceed with the execution of the series of directed works that the Lorca farmers need for the modernization of the consolidated irrigation of our municipal area.

We are talking about some works whose objective is to contribute to complete the total modernization of irrigable areas.

We must bear in mind that the investment required for this purpose is expected to reach 70 million, however the package of works that Lorca irrigators need peremptorily around 50.

Ángel Meca has stressed that the works that the President of the Regantes Lorca has claimed his counterpart from the SEIASA are "justice, very necessary" and an opportunity for the Government of Spain to really commit to the defense of our farmers.

Here we live from this and it is time to comply with Lorca.

These actions are the most urgent, and have to do with the use of available resources, specifically to continue advancing in the improvement of infrastructure.

We are talking about the construction of irrigation ponds, reservoirs, pipelines and impulses necessary to modernize 12,500 hectares of our consolidated irrigation.

The Councilor for Agriculture has appealed to the sensitivity of the Government of Spain to be aware of the special importance of the investments made to meet the needs of our farmers.

It is clear that if we want to have a competitive agri-food sector we have to support our people, and the commitment of the City Council and the Regional Government is absolute.

Now is the time for the State administration to do its part and face the needs that the sector presents.

They have to understand that every euro that goes to the sector, our farmers multiply it, transforming it into jobs, opportunities for development and promotion of the economy.

Angel Meca has also stressed that we live here, and we are concerned about our people, the thousands of families who make a living pulling the best and highest quality food we put in the pantries of Europe from the hard land.

If we want quality fruits and vegetables, they can not deny our people the water they so badly need and the investments they so badly need.

We ask that you support those who take this land forward and avoid with their daily work that can advance the desertification of our soils.

The Councilor for Agriculture has ratified the commitment of Lorca to achieve a National Water Pact, which allows our farmers eliminate the uncertainty against which they must always be fighting when making their plantations.

Spain can not continue to allow this error, we must remove this slab from our people, today better than tomorrow.
