The Councilors of Equality and Sports of the City of Lorca, Juan Francisco Martínez and Juan Miguel Bayonas, respectively, have announced that for next Wednesday, December 26, a 'Running Raising Awareness' has been organized, under the slogan "Corro sola y no I want to be afraid. "

The initiative is organized by the Athletics Club Puertas Lorca, the Running Club Sinergym, the Running Club Felipe VI, as well as by the Department of Sports and Equality of the City of Lorca.

The mayor of Sports has pointed out that "this idea arises as a result of the sad murder last week of the young teacher from Zamora, Laura Luelmo, in El Campillo, Huelva, the small town where she lived for just one week. We should never continue to encourage sports among the women's group and allow them to play sports in complete safety and not feel threatened at any time. "

Bayonas has reiterated that "we must continue to highlight the role of women in our society, as well as the importance of an education in Equality, so from the Department of Sports we join in a committed way to this activity with which to demonstrate that in Lorca, every day, many athletes go out to train in open spaces and we want them to do it with total peace of mind and the assurance that nothing will happen to them ".

For his part, the mayor of Equality, Juan Francisco Martinez, wanted to highlight that "through this initiative we want women and men of Lorca go out to enjoy the most committed sport, saying loud and clear that everyone has the right to do sport without being afraid, the objective is to raise awareness in society and to collaborate, among all, to ensure that women can continue to enjoy physical activity as they have done up to now ".

The athlete and president of the Athletics Club Puertas Lorca, Mari Carmen Guerrero, has detailed that they came up with the idea of making an initiative of this type "after hearing the news of Laura's death and also because last Sunday I was scared when I was training in the area of the Alamedas ".

The rally will take place next Wednesday, December 26 at 8:00 p.m.

It will depart from the Alameda de La Constitución (Mercadona area), it will pass through the greenway of Cazalla passing through the Kiosk Sevilla, Puente de la Torta, Alameda Virgen de las Huertas and the layout of the greenway itself, to return to the place of departure for the same route, which has a total of 6 kilometers.

From the organization appeals to everyone who wants to join, encouraging runners of all levels to take part because the most important thing this time is not the brand, but participate.

The march can also be done by walking, so a 4-kilometer route has been organized that would shorten the area of the Medical Office to return to the area of the CEIP Virgen de las Huertas.

It is not necessary to make any type of prior registration, so all those interested in supporting this initiative will only have to be present at the Alameda de la Constitución shortly before 8:00 p.m.

The march has the collaboration of the Local Police of Lorca, as well as the Municipal Emergency Service.
