Diego José Mateos demands the opening of the new fire station still pending after the 2011 earthquakes (02/01/2019)

Mateos: "The nearly eight years that have had to happen for Lorca to have a new Fire Station, after it was damaged by the earthquakes of 2011, show how little the Popular Party has cared about the security of the citizens and working conditions of the Fire Department "

The spokesman of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, Diego José Mateos has once again demanded the opening of the new Fire Station, whose works ended last July, in the absence of equipping it.

"After the sacrifice they had to make and the great work done precisely when our city suffered the worst after the tragedy of the earthquakes, it is unfair that this Body has been the last to return to having decent facilities."

Mateos recalled that this is the only emergency services infrastructure that remains to be recovered, after the reconstruction of the Local Police, Civil Guard or the National Police station was completed.

For all these reasons, Mateos has demanded the Mayor Gil Jódar and the Councilor for Emergencies, Juan Miguel Bayonas, the latter for his condition as vice president of the Governing Board of the Consortium for the Extinction of Fire and Rescue of the Region of Murcia, and his Commission Permanent, that "put the batteries, do not remain unrelated and require the Consortium the immediate opening of this infrastructure so basic and necessary."

"Neither the workers nor Lorca can continue for another minute without their Fire Station."

The spokesman of the PSOE has warned that "it is intolerable to continue spending the months while the Fire Department still has to be in a ship, in conditions practically third world, disbursing the Consortium, month after month, more than 5,000 euros of public money for a ship that was going to be provisional and, with all this, putting at risk the safety of Lorca. "

"It is not acceptable that almost 8 years have passed and Lorca still have no decent fire station, since the previous one was seriously damaged by earthquakes," warns Mateos.

"The nearly eight years that have had to pass evidence how little the Popular Party has cared about the safety of citizens and the working conditions of the Fire Department," he adds.

Mateos hopes that the delay in opening the new infrastructure is not related to Gil Jódar and the Popular Party are committing the "serious irresponsibility" of "making the inauguration coincide with the beginning of the electoral campaign", although he assures "everything points that this is the cause, since the works are finished since last July. "

So much so, he says, that the opening of the new park was scheduled for last fall.

To date, both the equipment and the start-up of the Park remain "undated".

In addition, the two new trucks, which have been purchased since July, are still not equipped, and therefore, are not operational.

"Our Fire Department already deserves to be recognized once again for the effort they have had to do during all these years, demonstrating their professionalism, doing everything and more, in the service of Lorca and Lorca, developing their work despite the regrettable conditions in which they had to be, due to the lack of commitment from public administrations, "assures Mateos.

The Lorca socialists, also through the Parliamentary Group in the Regional Assembly and Deputy Isabel Casalduero have shown their support to the Fire Department "from the minute zero", registering parliamentary initiatives on a continuous basis, year after year, ensuring compliance with the commitment of the Regional Administration for the reconstruction of the Fire Station.
