Mateos requires the Regional Government to provide the necessary resources so that patients with breast cancer in area III can be treated completely in Rafael Méndez (23/01/2019)

Diego José Mateos asks Gil Jódar not to disappoint Lorca breast cancer patients and learn to also demand from Lopez Miras the improvements that Area III needs.

"When it comes to defending Lorca, we must know how to demand all administrations, govern who governs."

The candidate for Mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos will demand Gil Jódar in the Plenary to side with patients with breast cancer in area III of health and also with health professionals to claim from the Regional Government the means that are needed to be able to attend one hundred percent of these patients since, to date, the lack of the necessary means in Rafael Méndez forces 80% of these patients to move out of the municipality.

This complaint has also been transferred to the Regional Assembly through the Parliamentary Group of the PSOE.

"I hope that Gil Jódar is up to the task, and does not disappoint these patients, which is why what the current mayor has to do is learn to also demand the regional government to achieve the improvements that Area III needs, in the same way as now knows how to demand the central government. "

"The discrimination that the Regional Government maintains towards Lorca and towards Rafael Méndez is intolerable, and how Gil Jódar keeps silent because he does not bother his party comrades."

Mateos has reported that in area 3 there is an annual incidence of 120 cases of breast cancer, of which, he warns, "only 20% are operated on Rafael Méndez, and 80% have to be referred to the unit. breast of the hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca, Murcia ".

The fundamental reason, warns Mateos is, that "even today, despite having spent more than a decade claiming this issue from the successive management of area 3, and despite having also in Lorca since 2013 with a unit of multidisciplinary breast, perfectly trained and willing, are the central services of the Murcian Health Service which still does not allow that 80% of breast cancer patients belonging to area 3 can be operated on Rafael Méndez, a few kilometers from his house, forcing them to have to move them and their respective families to Murcia for this operation ".

"It is a matter of political will," he insists.

The reason is the selective biopsy of the sentinel lymph node (BSGC), a fundamental diagnostic test for the correct diagnosis of the disease "that in Rafael Méndez can not be performed due to the lack of the necessary means."

This test has been developed with the participation of nuclear medicine services, only present in the hospitals of Santa Lucía de Cartagena and Virgen de la Arrixaca de Murcia and in the Belén Clinic of Murcia, the latter is private by concert.

However, "this has not prevented the rest of hospitals in the region such as the Vega Lorenzo Guirao de Cieza hospitals, Virgen del Castillo in Yecla, Morales Meseguer and Reina Sofía de Murcia and the smaller Arcos del Mar Menor that of Lorca, come doing the BSGC with total normality, the great majority for more than a decade ".

All of this, denounces Mateos, "supposes a tremendous comparative grievance, another one, for patients with breast cancer in Area 3 and their families."

"In the case of Lorca, patients and their families are forced to travel 130 kilometers, round trip, when they could be operated at the Rafael Méndez Hospital because there is a multidisciplinary breast unit established at the end of the year. 2013 with different physicians and specialized and trained nursing staff to perform the BSGC.

In fact, there are alternative techniques proposed by the health personnel themselves, reported Mateos, which could be implemented, such as the ferromagnetic technique, which is even more economical than the nuclear technique, but again it is the "stumbling block" that the SMS represents. refuses to authorize that it can be carried out in the Murcia region.

"Once again what is missing is the political decision of the Regional Government," he insists.

The PSOE denounces the lack of anesthetists in Rafael Méndez

Another impediment that exists today in area III of health is the insufficiency of anesthetist doctors.

"We have eight operating rooms and a modern post-anesthesia resuscitation unit, newly opened, with contracted nurses and, however, three of them are not used, due to the lack of anesthetists."

"There is only the possibility of using five operating rooms due to the lack of anesthetists," says Mateos.

Mateos insists that what Gil Jódar has to do, if it really is for the improvement of health in Lorca, is to demand that Murcia stop discriminating against Lorca.

"This is a question of political will, since it is the Murcian Health Service that refuses, so if the Mayor takes the step, he will have us by his side, in concentrations, in demonstrations, in which lack, when it comes to defending the interests of Lorca, you have to be demanding wherever and before whomever, govern who governs.
