The new headquarters of the Department of Equality, located on Cava Street, is added to those of the areas of Statistics, Local Tax Agency Municipal Archive, Tourism, Information Society, Agriculture, Contracting and Tourism Office, and will join the facilities of the new Palace of Justice projected on Selgas street.
January 25, 2018. The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, together with the Minister of Family and Equality of Opportunities of the Autonomous Region of Murcia, Violante Tomás, have officially opened this morning the new headquarters of the council of Equality of the City council of Lorca.
This is a new facility that is provided to the city that is located on Cava street and is a milestone in the care and improvement of women in the City of the Sun. This infrastructure is a space that offers citizens all municipal services in matters of Equality, one of the most important being the CAVI (Specialized Care Center for Women Victims of Gender Violence), in addition to offering users the possibility of participating during 12 months of the year in activities training and leisure, as well as cultural programs specifically aimed at the female collective.
Fulgencio Gil said that with the entry into service of this infrastructure, this city makes available to all Lorca that need it, a quality equipment, which offers a comprehensive service to the group, and with which Lorca is located the regional vanguard in assisting women and promoting equality.
From the Municipal Executive we are fully aware of the struggle for the real achievement of gender equality, and this powerful investment is one of the clearest examples in this regard.
The building that pays attention to the women's collective preserves a part of the historic façade and has a total area of ​​685 m2, which are distributed over four floors above ground and a basement below ground that houses a modern multipurpose hall.
The rest of the floors are destined for reception, warehouse, 8 offices of attention and service to the citizen, 2 waiting rooms and two joint areas of work posts, one of meetings and the corresponding toilets. As for endowment, the property is equipped of furniture for the entire building;
voice and data network for 18 workstations, 32-seat auditorium equipped with audiovisual and public address systems, home automation control system, climate control per room according to needs and use, alarm system, low consumption LED lighting and 5-lift stops, besides being 100% accessible.
This infrastructure is a special revulsive for the revitalization of the historic center of our city, since it is located at 13 and 14 of Calle Cava, next to the Plaza de España and a few meters from the headquarters of the City Council, within the axis of municipal services that are located in the historic center of the city, such as the Statistics Service, the Local Tax Agency, the Municipal Archive and the Department of Tourism, Information Society, Agriculture and Contracting, among others.
The investment made amounts to 593,643.27 euros.
It is worth remembering that the City Council has made available to the broad associative fabric of women's collectives a network that includes almost fifty locations so that they can develop their activity, covering both the urban case, neighborhoods and districts.
The number of women assisted by the Specialized Care Center for Women Victims of Gender Violence in Lorca over the past year was 1,274, while the CAVI professionals carried out 2,067 interventions in the aforementioned period.
