The children, who have given the Mayor and the councilors white paper flowers made by themselves, have also toured the main streets of the city to distribute these crafts among Lorca as a gesture of peace and solidarity

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, has received this morning in the City of Lorca more than 100 schoolchildren from the "Casa del Niño" school that have celebrated the Day of Peace and Nonviolence with a visit to the Lorca Consistory, where they have read a manifesto and a poem, and a performance in Plaza de España.

Fulgencio Gil has indicated that "in this Day of Peace the educational centers commit themselves as defenders of peace and understanding between people of different origins and ways of thinking, and a good proof of this are the activities that they have organized from the school" Casa del Niño "to commemorate this day, I want to thank all the children for the great detail they have had with the councilors and with myself by giving us white paper flowers made by hand by them".

After the performance in the Plaza de España the students have made a tour of the main streets of the city to distribute flowers among Lorca as a gesture of peace and solidarity.

Since 1964, to commemorate the death of Gandhi, the School Day of Nonviolence and Peace, recognized by UNESCO in 1993, is celebrated on January 30. On this date the need for education for tolerance, solidarity is remembered , respect for Human Rights, nonviolence and peace.
