Somos Región: "The north route of the AVE would be the solution for Lorca" (07/02/2019)

This morning gave a press conference the new political formation of Somos Region Lorca and its Secretary General Antonio Ibarra Lorente transmitted his proposal for the passage of the Ave and the Mediterranean Corridor as it passes through the City of Lorca.

We are seeing recently that AVE investments are not made with economic criteria, but political, subjecting the policy of infrastructure of Spain to the supply and demand of political leaders, forgetting in the process that the main value of infrastructure investments is the economic development and particularly that of the most disadvantaged territories, as is the case of the Region of Murcia.

We are region wants to recover the idea of the project of the north route, now that the works have been stopped and the technical studies return.

For them the Project supposes a great improvement of the layout for the following reasons:

- The city would not be divided into two for life.

Remember that important projects such as freeways never cross the center of the cities.

- There would be no space limitation for the growth of the railway station, as for the bus station.

- Eliminate the division of neighborhoods such as Apolonia, San Diego and districts such as Tercia, Campillo and Torrecilla.

With this we avoid that the city can not grow.

- You would not need all the expropriations of land in districts and avoid all the overpasses that are so much headache are now giving.

It would also eliminate the retaining wall that the railroad supposes for next avenues of water after torrential rains.

- It would avoid the passage of freight trains through the center of the city, even dangerous ones, since the layout of the AVE shares the same route as the Mediterranean Corridor.

- During the construction of the route the current road and the station could continue to operate, it would not be necessary to build any for that period.

- A stop of the Mediterranean Corridor could be established in the vicinity of the Saprelorca polygon, which would attract greater industrial activity and therefore the creation of employment.

- It would make the city of Lorca could one day become a great city with present and future.

They also reported on several projects for the passage of the AVE in other cities such as Alcantarilla and Totana in our region, which are already betting on the passage of the Ave for a variant that does not cross the center of the city.

As it has happened in other places like for example the Variant of Camarillas was one of those projects abandoned in 2006.

Then it was said, in a euphemistic way, that it is "postponed for a future study," and now it seems that it is the solution.

At the national level there are projects such as the Antequera variant that uses the impressive Archidona viaduct, which overflies the olive groves along more than 3 kilometers, this is caused by an environmental requirement.

Another important work highlights the Sorbas Tunnel of more than 7 km in length, which will be the longest in Andalusia.

Their technical complexity is high since they cross land with significant geological and geotechnical risks.

From Somos Region they bet that the Trazado Norte is studied in a real way, that we remember that it was rejected for political and non-technical reasons.

Since the current layout directly affects both downtown, as districts as La Hoya, Marchena, Tercia, Torrecilla, Campillo and neighborhoods like San Diego and Apolonia, in short, more than 20,000 inhabitants of our city.

And of course always without forgetting the claim of a modern commuter train, since it is the safe bet to interconnect the towns of the region at an affordable price and that at present they are the trains that retire in other provinces of the north and that are in a deplorable state.

We are in a historical moment where we have to decide whether to continue investing in inequality or to begin once and for all to invest in development;

development that allows us to finally pay for all infrastructures, both those made with a sense of status and those made with clearly partisan criteria
