Lorca joins the Bookcrossing project by releasing 40 books for Valentine's Day to be shared and cross borders (13/02/2019)

The Councilor for Education of the City of Lorca, Francisco Montiel, has announced a new project to encourage reading that will be launched from this Thursday, on the occasion of Valentine's Day, and that is called Bookcrossing.

It is organized by the General Directorate of Books, Archives and Libraries with the collaboration of the Municipal Libraries Network.

Montiel has announced that "Bookcrossing is an initiative born with the philosophy of crossing borders, seeking freedom of reading and giving each book thousands of lives. We want books to be more alive than ever and that their stories are not stranded on a shelf or in a drawer, but to travel the world making new readers enjoy the pleasure of reading. We can say that it is an intelligent social network.

Bookcrossing involves three steps.

The first is to read any book.

Next the reader registers it in www.bookcrossing.com, where it will obtain an identification and will be able to label it.

The third step is the most important: so that more people have the opportunity to read it, the original reader should leave the book "forgotten" anywhere, a bank, a park, a cafeteria, ...

Thanks to the label you can follow the book by entering the code on the web to see where it has traveled and who has had the opportunity to enjoy it.

Anyone who finds a book labeled with the BCID code can join the initiative, reading it and participating in the diary of the book enabled on the web.

The Network of Municipal Libraries joins for the first time the initiative on this Valentine's Day.

For this, 40 books of different titles of literature will be released, including also works of children's literature.

The books will be distributed both in the urban area and in the districts that have a municipal library, such as Almendricos, La Paca, Zarcilla de Ramos, Purias, Tercia, Marchena, La Hoya and Cazalla.

As a curiosity, it should be noted that the mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, will also participate in the initiative by releasing a book.

The intention is to repeat this experience throughout the year in different special events such as Book Day, as well as encouraging Lorca to also release their own copies.

These first released books correspond to donations of duplicates received from the Regional Library of Murcia that have been already registered by the Library Network on the platform to begin their trips.

Bookcrossing is an international initiative launched since 2001 that is very well received in countries such as the United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, ... There are currently 1,935,660 bookcrossers and 12,766,500 books traveling through 132 countries, connecting people through of the reading.
