Diego José Mateos: "The development of the University Campus, for which we bet, will be key for Lorca to shine again and recover the weight that corresponds to us on the regional map" (15/02/2019)

The PSOE will present a motion to the next plenary session for the promotion of the University Campus of Lorca: "This is the first step in our firm intention to make the University of Lorca a fundamental axis and engine of development for our city, and that we will take out through our SOL project, of solutions for Lorca, with which Lorca will shine again.

The candidate for Mayor of Lorca, Diego José Mateos has reaffirmed his commitment to get, from the municipal government, the "definitive boost" to the development of the University Campus of Lorca which, he says, is "ballast" after twelve years of "suffocation" "of a Popular Party that" has never believed in the project of the University of Lorca ".

Mateos has ensured that the development of the socio-sanitary science faculty in Lorca, and therefore, the Lorca Campus "is a fundamental pillar for us, it is a specific axis of the SOL project, the solution project for Lorca that we have prepared to govern Lorca "

Diego José Mateos has been convinced that the development of the Campus of Lorca should be a "revitalizing element" for the neighborhood and in turn a "growth engine" for Lorca and its region.

"Talking about Campus should be about progress, knowledge, opportunities, and the university must be an opportunity for Lorca to recover the specific weight it deserves in the regional context, and that it has lost after this decade of resignation and conformism. of the Popular Party ".

"It is evident that the Popular Party, during its twelve years of government in Lorca, has neglected the University of Lorca, without going any further, have led to the fact that, being Lorca first, a Campus of Socio-Health Sciences was created, as always , in Murcia, next to the Virgen de la Arrixaca hospital, once again despising our city. "

In addition, he stressed, "there is more to see that in eight years have not been able or restore the facade, after it was damaged as a result of earthquakes."

"It is regrettable that they are consenting, year after year, that those who visit and make use of these facilities take this painful image".

"It is time to bet decidedly for the development of our university campus, as an engine of employment, wealth and growth for Lorca and its region," said Mateos who recalled that "we must not go too far to verify that cities such as Cartagena or Elche had a before and after from the development of their universities, and Lorca can not be less. "

Through this motion, which will defend at the next municipal plenary session, the PSOE aims to gather the support of the rest of the political forces to re-apply for the implementation of the Occupational Therapy degree in the Campus of Lorca.

"We are not claiming anything new, this qualification is granted from the beginning, and neither the City Council nor the Regional Government have been able to implement it."

In addition, they will request the necessary investments for the installation of the socialization room and also the gymnasium, both pending spaces, which are "claimed" by the users since they are "necessary" for the normal functioning of the Campus.

Similarly, the PSOE claims the air conditioning of building B Lorca campus, "necessary for the study room and future classrooms of Occupational Therapy", as well as a greater endowment of teachers "full time" to meet the demands required the staff.

In addition, the PSOE will again request in the Plenary the restoration of the exterior facades of the Building of Administrative Services and Rector of the Campus, that still show the "visible scars" of the earthquakes.
