López Miras: "The new Alameda de Cervantes, more modern, comfortable and accessible, is what Lorca deserve" (22/02/2019)

The president of the Community, Fernando Lopez Miras, said today that "the new Alameda de Cervantes, more modern, more comfortable and accessible, is what, without a doubt, Lorca deserve, and a clear example of the new Lorca, prepared for offer more opportunities and well-being, which will contribute significantly to the economic and social development of the Region. "

López Miras made these statements at the opening ceremony of this communication route linking the historic center of Lorca with a new growth zone of the city, and in whose complete remodeling the regional government has made an investment of 3.2 million euros

The remodeling works have resulted in a modern avenue, with all kinds of amenities, wider sidewalks, new leisure areas, bike lanes and new roundabouts to give more fluidity to the intense traffic of this road.

In addition, actions have been taken to reduce flood risks in the event of heavy rain.

The Alameda de Cervantes is also one of the access roads to the neighborhood of San Fernando where, due to the earthquakes of 2011, 232 homes had to be demolished in nine buildings.

In this neighborhood, which has had to be completely rebuilt, the regional government has invested a total of 8.2 million between the construction of housing and urbanization actions.

The next month of March will take place the act of handing over the keys of the new homes to the residents of San Fernando.

According to the president, "Lorca has become a dynamic, accessible city with more spaces for neighbors."

He stressed that "we have shown that effort and capacity for initiative can overcome difficulties and overcome challenges," adding that "there is work to be done and we will continue as always to meet the demands and needs of Lorca."

In this regard, he indicated that the reconstruction continues to advance in neighborhoods such as San Fernando, Santa Quiteria, Cristo Rey-La Salud, and advanced that in the coming days will begin work on the avenue Europe.

Comprehensive remodeling of the neighborhood

The remodeling of the Alameda de Cervantes has meant the construction of wider sidewalks and the elimination of architectural barriers and unevenness throughout the neighborhood to facilitate mobility and access to buildings and shops.

It also highlights the creation of a safe school path for the students of the Francisco Ros Giner and José Ibáñez Martin institutes through the pedestrianization of the urbanization of San Rafael, the adaptation of the Embroidery Plaza Ros Apollonia, the renovation of sidewalks in María Agustina street and the creation of a new youth park in the area of ​​'la Isla'.

The road has two new roundabouts to give traffic more fluidity, especially at the junction with El Gato road and Poeta Para Vico street, which records the transit of 988 vehicles per hour, and in which a sculpture has been installed in honor of the Spanish playwright Miguel de Cervantes, who gives his name to this road.

In addition, it has a bicycle lane.

Likewise, a solution has been found to the problems of flooding on this road, where hydraulic capacity has been increased and all the basic infrastructures, paving, urban furniture have been renewed and new playgrounds and spaces destined for older people have been set up. promote healthy life habits.

In addition, lighting and urban service networks have been improved, such as drinking water and rainwater, sanitation, electricity, gas and telecommunications.
