Lorca launches the best equipped Waste Management facilities in the Spanish Levante, which will allow Lorca to save more than 5.8 million euros annually (28/02/2019)

The Limusa Center in Barranco Hondo benefits from an investment of over 4.4 million that has allowed the construction of a new vessel with sufficient capacity to adequately treat urban waste over a period of at least 40 years.

The Mayor of Lorca, Fulgencio Gil, supervised this morning the entry into operation of the new improvements implemented in the Waste Management Center of Barranco Hondo.

It is a work of great importance and strategic nature, whose benefits will be reflected throughout the municipality.

These investments ensure that Lorca's waste is treated in our own facility for at least the next 40 years.

The Mayor stressed that among these actions stands out the new glass of the CGR which is 55% more efficient and cheaper than the previous one, multiplied by 4 its useful life and places Lorca as a national model in waste treatment.

Investments in Barranco Hondo will allow Lorca to save annually 5,857,456.44 euros between travel costs and urban waste handling.

This project has allowed to increase the storage capacity of Urban Solid Waste (RSU) of the Barranco Hondo Management Center and proceed to the closure of the current vessel.

Fulgencio Gil has said that among all Lorca we are raising a new Lorca, which marks the challenge of looking to the future by implementing the infrastructures that our social groups and their own reality showed.

In this way, it is so important in our city model to have more and better roads, water supply networks and renovated services, a modern Trade Fair and Congress Center, as well as a recovered historical heritage, safety infrastructures, and streets and districts properly prepared and equipped, such as having facilities in which the waste we generate is treated in the most appropriate manner.

Cell 3 of the spill vessel means having 2.8 million cubic meters of capacity for the final management of the non-recoverable fraction of domestic waste.

At the current rate of entries, giving service to Lorca and other municipalities, a useful lifetime of 40 years is foreseen.

In this infrastructure, the greatest possible environmental security measures have been taken, among which we should highlight, in addition to its waterproofing, the installation of elements related to the extraction and management of leachates, and the collection and channeling of runoff pluvial.

The works, which involved a total investment of 4,431,156.82 euros, began on June 30, 2017 and have been extended with respect to the original project to allow the incorporation of certain improvements and new adaptations adopted in the course of its construction. .

The works carried out include the construction of the RSU vessel, the sealing and closing of the cell in operation with 55,000 m2 of vegetal layer), the extraction of leachates, access roads and ditches, which means a total area of ​​18,000 m2 asphalted), as well as its environmental integration with the plantation of 8,900 cypresses, the rain pond with 24,025 m3 of capacity that will supply water to the plant complex), the led type lighting (100 points of light of low consumption, equipped with remote control system point a point) and a new office building of 250 m2 accessible for people with reduced mobility and with capacity for 6 work places, access control and training room for 25 people.

The Mayor has reported that the construction of the new vessel, entering figures, has involved a volume of land movement below ground level of 1,414,000 m3, with 3 interior sub-cells, equipped with independent drainage and leachate extraction systems.

The average capacity of the vessel between flush is 1,442,000 m³, while the total filling capacity amounts to 2,826,000 m3.

The improvements made during the execution have contemplated, in summary, the following:

Berma intermediate security on the slope, an implementation that improves access.

Enabling a service road on the upper north edge, parallel to the main one.

Consolidation and prevention of runoff in the collection of land.

New security barrier on the edge of the east slope.

Paving of the access road to the interior of cell 3.

Paving of the exit road between cell 1 and 3.

Reinforcement of the safety signage in the transit zone of cell 3.

Regarding the sealing and closing of cell 2, we must indicate that the sealing surface of the closed cell has amounted to 55,800 m2, resorting to the implementation of a mineral impermeable barrier and an artificial drainage system based on hidden geocomposite with spillage perimeter gutters and cover layer of topsoil of 1 m.

Regarding the leachate extraction, 3 independent booths have been built, one per subcell, equipped with independent extraction systems by means of hydraulic bottom pumps, with a novel solution for the mechanical protection of the extraction columns based on concrete pipes. .

The pumps are controlled from the main house and are equipped with a level probe for their control.

The improvements introduced in this game have been:

Increase in section of the pump power cable.

Improvement in operating costs through the centralization of the control panels and protection of the 3 pumps in a single booth.

Installation of a centralized valve system of the three extraction pumps for handling and management of leachates from a single point.

The improvement implemented has also covered the access roads and ditches, acting on a surface of new service roads of 9,050 m2 and a total area of ​​asphalt accesses and roads of 18,005 m2.

The length of the new concrete gutters for drainage is located at 2,540 m.

The improvements introduced in this game have been:

Installation of a barrier on the way out.

Increase of paved surface with the incorporation of more road lengths, new parking area, office environment and workshop esplanade.

Increase of the urbanized area with the incorporation of the new environment of the 700 m office building and parking, up to a total of 1400 m.

Increase in the length of the carport marquee, which goes from 20 to 40 m.

Improvement of the section of the road surface, with an increase in the thickness of agglomerate that goes from 5 to 7 cm in thickness and 8 in the case of the main road and in the access road to cell 3.

I cleanse by milling the areas, with firm scales.

Increase in the length of new fencing with the inclusion of the collection and entry zones.

In order to allow an environmental integration and improvement of the Visual Impact, works have been carried out on a vegetable hydrosowing surface in cell 2 of 55,000 m2.

The length of new cypresses hedges reaches 2,954 m (8,900 trees).

The installation of automated irrigation has been included in all vegetation sectors.

The improvements introduced in this game have been:

Additional clearing of fencing perimeters, a total of 20,000 m2

Landscaping and conditioning of the new environment of the office building.

Greater sectorization of irrigation circuits for better water management.

Extension of the landscaped area at the entrance to the CGR at 1,100 m2

A key item for water provision in the general execution of the work has been the one corresponding to the rain pond that allows the storage and use of rainwater from ditches and its use for irrigation.

The main improvement introduced in this heading has been the expansion of the storage capacity of the raft by 4,025 m3, compared to what was initially planned, going from 20,000 m3 to 24,025 m3.

The new lighting system supposes the optimization and energetic efficiency of the enclosure by means of the replacement of the current lighting by another type of Led of low consumption, with 100 points of light of low consumption, endowed of system of telegestión point to point for a greater efficiency.

The improvements introduced in this game have been:

Optimization and updated energy efficiency of all systems.

Centralization of all systems in the new office building.

Update of the luminaires including point-to-point telemanagement system.

Construction of 4,300 m of new underground rodent piping.

New electrical connection with LSBT channeling from the CT

Increase of the special lighting areas with the installation of 11 additional projectors.

Completely new control panels and protection, both for indoor and outdoor circuits, automated and energy efficient.

These works have contemplated the construction of a new office building of 250 m2 completely accessible for people with reduced mobility and with capacity for 6 work places, access control and training room for 25 people.

The most significant improvements introduced in this game have been:

Completely new structure with elimination of old townhouses.

Exterior safety glazing.

Interior partitions completely glazed for offices.

New supply and sanitation facilities.

New electric control and protection systems.

Improvement of external accessibility.

Adaptation of the driver's position for reduced mobility.
