IU-V asks that Lorca be the headquarters of the water and agriculture council of the CARM (07/03/2019)

The municipal spokesman of IU-V, Pedro Sosa, has advanced this morning which will be one of the fundamental initiatives that his political group will defend in the next ordinary full of the City Council, make Lorca headquarters of the Ministry of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fishing.

Sosa recalled that institutional political fabric of the Region of Murcia was marked from the beginning of the autonomic stage by the so-called axis Murcia-Cartagena in which Lorca was left and its large region.

Both cities divided the seats of their autonomous institutions leaving the executive (both the CARM Presidency and the Governing Council), along with the Superior Court of Justice in the city of Murcia, and the autonomous parliament in Cartagena.

This axis, in addition, says Pedro Sosa, has been the recipient of the vast majority of public spending and investment, thus creating a region very unbalanced territorially.

The mayor of IU argues that the only decentralization attempts that have occurred in decades have always been driven by political and social actors of the city of Cartagena, to the point that a political party as centralist as the PP has shown its willingness, made public weeks ago, to turn Cartagena into the headquarters of the Ministry of Tourism, basing this initiative on the special link that this historic city and its large region have with the tourism sector.

With the same rationale, the Councilor of IU-V now proposes that Lorca become the seat of a central council of the regional government of Murcia, that of Water and Agriculture.

Sosa affirms that Lorca and its Comarca concentrate, far above other Murcian regions, a large part of the activity of the primary sector of the Region.

Sosa maintains that the transfer to Lorca of the Ministry of Agriculture, which currently has more than 400 public workers, would give a vital boost to our city.

The organization chart of the Ministry with its General Secretariat and its four directorates general could have a fit in several buildings in the city, starting with the Agrarian Chamber of Corredera Street and passing through other historic buildings of the city that could be restored and adapted to such an end

Sosa hopes that the IU-V initiative will be well received in the rest of the political formations and, fundamentally, in the social and economic fabric of the city, and for this they will ask for the support of the Chamber of Commerce, CECLOR and the agricultural and livestock organizations. and union.
