The PSOE celebrates that Lorca joins the Network of Jewish Quarters of Spain: "Justice is done with our city, since it was unheard of for Lorca to be out" (28/03/2019)

García Jiménez: "It is a luminous moment in the History of Lorca".

"Today we reward so many choral efforts of professions that with their" constant work "envisioned and hoped that Lorca de Sepharad was in this elite institution".

The Councilor of the PSOE in the City of Lorca, María Antonia García Jiménez is pleased that the city of Lorca is incorporated into the Network of Spanish Jewish Quarters: "It is fantastic news, with which justice is done with Lorca, with our history and our heritage ", and congratulates all the entities that have made it possible.

García Jiménez recalls that it was the PSOE who in 2015 requested the PP to initiate the procedures for Lorca to be incorporated as a member city of said Network and this decision rewards so many choral efforts of professions that envisioned and longed for their "constant work" that Lorca de Sepharad was in this essential organization in a projection of cultural and tourist City.

Nobody doubts, García Jiménez points out, that "we Lorca are children of history, that our uniqueness is that we have built ourselves as a frontier, intercultural, fighting city but also of meetings".

"Today we are inside an elite institution, which will point us to the world on the route of the Hebrew cities, of our ancestors, and we will be remembered for being one of the most important" aljamas "of the twelfth century."

It was on the occasion of the celebration of the I Summit of Network of Jewish Quarters of Spain and Portugal, and the participation of the Synagogue of Lorca in one of its conferences, when, remember, it became clear that the municipality of Lorca was not associated with the Network of Spanish Jewish Quarters, an entity that "encompasses the cities and towns that have important Jewish quarters".

With this incorporation, he emphasizes, "we are faced with a fundamental tool to help disseminate the cultural, historical and architectural heritage of the Jewish legacy in Spain, as well as its tourism promotion".

Belonging to this network, says García Jiménez, "places us on the international map of cultural tourism interconnected with our Jewish past."

The discovery of the late medieval synagogue, in an exceptional state of conservation and its original restoration, impacted on public opinion by creating a favorable conscience, "that with the effort of all has been kept alive," he adds.

The mayor stressed that it was "unheard" that Lorca did not belong to this association, so it is a "magnificent opportunity" to give knowledge of the Jewish Lorca, as well as the rehabilitation and enhancement of heritage.

"It opens an unbeatable way to accelerate the development and conservation of the Jewish cultural patrimony in Lorca".

"A necessary step to place our city and its rich heritage in the place it deserves," he says.
