Final impetus for the implementation of the degree in Occupational Therapy at the Lorca campus (01/04/2019)

The University Campus Consortium of Lorca, chaired by the Minister of Employment, Universities, Business and Environment, Javier Celdrán, agreed today to support the implementation of the new degree in Occupational Therapy by the University of Murcia (UMU).

This entails the construction by the Poncemar Foundation of a day center for the elderly in which the students will carry out practices and which will also serve to conduct research on aging and health care for the elderly.

In this way, the offer of official degrees in Nursing and Human Nutrition and Dietetics will be joined by the implementation of the Occupational Therapy degree in the Faculty of Social and Health Sciences, which also has an integrated Vocational Training Center with modules of the health area.

The objective is that the degree is implemented in the 2020-2021 academic year.

The UMU will begin its processing, which lasts approximately one year and includes the preparation of the report of the degree, its approval by the competent university bodies, the evaluation of Aneca, the verification of the Council of Universities and the authorization of implementation by the Community. .

Construction of the center and other investments

Likewise, it is expected that construction and equipment of the day center will begin this year, with a contribution of the Consortium in five years of 150,000 euros;

50,000 euros from the City Council of Lorca and a minimum of 600,000 euros from the Poncemar Foundation.

Its estimated execution is one year, once the municipal construction license is obtained.

The facade of the main building of the Campus, damaged by the earthquakes of 2011, will also be rehabilitated, with an investment of 153,687 euros that will be financed under the Lorca Reconstruction Director Plan.

Another approved investment is the construction on the Campus of a socialization room for rest and coexistence of students, for an amount exceeding 60,000 euros, and a gymnasium and changing rooms for sports practice of students, in collaboration with the UMU, with an investment that exceeds 50,000 euros.

The Campus Consortium of Lorca is composed of the Community, the City of Lorca, the UMU, the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, the Chamber of Commerce of Lorca and the Regional Confederation of Business Organizations of Lorca.
