The Alameda Pavilion has hosted today the VI Intercentros Senior Athletes Meeting organized by the Mayor's Council of the City of Lorca and in which 250 older people participated, of which 70 have taken an active part in the different tests.
All of them are users of the different residences and day centers of the municipality such as Caser, Poncemar day center, San Diego Residence, IMAS Residence, Alzheimer's Association, Red Cross and Parkinson's Association.
This activity, funded by the Obra Social La Caixa, is a high-value sporting event that allows the coexistence of older dependents of day centers and residences throughout Lorca, thus offering an open experience to the reality of the elderly with the objective to raise awareness about the benefits that physical activity brings to their health and self-esteem.
At the same time, through this activity tolerance and solidarity are favored from the acceptance of diversity, facilitating coexistence, well-being and personal satisfaction of our elders.
The day began with the arrival of the participants and the traditional sponsorship by two Lorca athletes, which in this case were the bodybuilders Chari Guillén and Juan Miguel Sanz.
Then began the tests, interrupted in the middle of tomorrow to take a snack made by the students of the training actions of hospitality, cooking and restoration launched by the Department of Local Development.
After the same have been completed, to proceed with the awards ceremony at 13.30.
As for the tests carried out, they are divided into several blocks, both in the individual and collective modalities.
As for the individual, on the one hand there are the physical tests, which include activities such as bowling, targets and cone-hoops;
in the sensorials we find activities consisting of recognizing objects, smells or tastes;
in terms of cognitive, we find those of attention, soup of letters or calculation.
With respect to the group tests, as for the physical tests, two take place: the "train pass-ball and the" water throws. "As for the sensory tests, the recognition of songs and the All of them have been coordinated and supervised by technicians, assuming an improvement at a physical and sensorial level for the participants.
From the City we want to congratulate all the major participants, their centers, Red Cross volunteers, collaborators such as the Department of Sports, Local Development, Civil Protection, Local Police and the Department of Family and Social Welfare itself for continuing to do possible this great morning of physical and motor activity, of conviviality and fun with which 250 elderly Lorca have once again shown us that joy and fun are not exclusive virtues of youth.
