López Miras: "The residents of San Fernando are examples of overcoming and hope for the new Lorca" (07/04/2019)

The works carried out in the neighborhood have consisted of the construction of 232 houses, 267 car parks and 30 commercial premises and the urban renewal of the area.

The president of the Community, Fernando Lopez Miras, said today that residents of the neighborhood of San Fernando de Lorca are "an example of effort and improvement of all Lorca to return to the city what they snatched earthquakes, but also hope for the new Lorca ".

"The worst consequences of the earthquakes were lived here, in this neighborhood," the president said during the meeting he had with the neighbors of the area and stressed that "it was the only neighborhood that it was necessary to completely demolish to ensure the safety of their inhabitants after the severe structural damage suffered by the houses ".

The works carried out in the neighborhood consisted in the construction of 9 buildings, integrated by 232 homes, 267 car parks and 30 commercial premises, as well as the integral renovation of the area to make its urban environment more accessible, sustainable, modern, with better sanitation services, more green areas and contribute to energy savings.

Lopez Miras stressed that San Fernando is "the clearest example of the new Lorca, which not only is reborn but is reinvented, evolves and offers more and better opportunities to its residents and the next generations."

In short, "a city designed for the citizen, as demanded by the society of the XXI century," he said.

New neighborhood of San Fernando

The new neighborhood of San Fernando, originally built in the 70s, maintains the composition and the situation of the housing blocks with the aim of not losing the neighborhood's own identity.

The main urban modifications have made it possible to raise the level of the neighborhood to the same height as the surroundings, especially to Alameda de Cervantes and Ronda Sur.

This has also allowed to avoid the frequent floods that occurred in the neighborhood.

Likewise, routes have been designed to eliminate architectural barriers and increase accessibility, a network has been established to improve the evacuation of rainwater and all urban furniture has been renovated, as well as all services (electricity network, public lighting, sanitation , potable water supply, communications, gas and irrigation).

Green areas have also been created with playgrounds for children and meeting areas and games for the elderly that allow leisure and enjoyment of outdoor leisure.

Special attention has been paid to energy efficiency with the change of the luminaires by other LED type to promote energy savings.

In addition, the buildings have been equipped with parking spaces in basements, which will allow greater comfort to residents and better traffic management, and create commercial premises on the ground floor to attract the installation of business activities and encourage growth from the city.
