El Paso Purple presents the new set of embroidery of the Christ of Mercy, whose banner has required the work of 9 embroiderers for 2 years and 55 days (08/04/2019)

It is a piece that has as its central element the image of Jesus Christ Crucified and behind it the sunlight opening a cloudy sky, accompanied by two angels who hold a crown of thorns on the head of the Lord.

The Brotherhood of the Holy Christ of Forgiveness, Paso Morado, has presented this morning publicly the group that constitutes its main novelty for the next Biblical-Passional Parades of Holy Week, the new standard of the Christ of Mercy, next to the tunics of its holders -standards, lanterns and butlers' robes.

The President of Paso Morado, Fulgencio Martínez, explained that this new group constitutes an extraordinary effort on the part of the Brotherhood, meaning a work that is fruitful after a long time, dedication and sacrifice.

We are talking about a set of embroidery that was blessed last Saturday at the church of Carmen.

Along with his artistic direction, I consider that the real protagonists of the piece that we are proud to present to contribute to the splendor of our processions are its embroiderers.

I consider that it is a profession that we must dignify among all, and in which we have to be ambitious to achieve that the authentic art that they are able to materialize with their hands obtain the recognition that is deserved by Unesco.

Fulgencio Martínez has stated that El Paso Morado has focused its economic efforts over the last 5 years to make this project possible, and has indicated that "we are a very humble Brotherhood in chrematistic resources, but very ambitious in projects and ideas." This group will precede The figure of the Christ of Mercy, in which a team of 9 embroiderers took part over 2 years and 55 days, highlights the work of his medallion embroidered in silk with the image of Jesus Christ Crucified accompanied by two angels who hold his head is a crown of thorns, and the banner is adorned with a gold border whose fretwork makes continuous winks at the architectural complex of Calvary, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC).

The President of the Paso Morado has also appreciated the work carried out by the artistic director of the new group, Francisco Javier Martínez, popularly known as Fran J. Marber, who has underlined his effort and dedication to the preparation of a set of extraordinary merit.

The Mayor congratulated the Paso Morado for the incorporation of this new group for which we must congratulate all Lorca, and noted that the entire city is focused on the common goal of achieving the declaration of Intangible Heritage of Humanity by the UNESCO, remembering that our Biblical-Pastoral Parades constitute the main cultural, religious and tourist attraction of the municipality.

El Paso Morado goes out in procession in the traditional and genuine way, without including biblical groups in movement, but only with banners, Nazarenes and "steps" that show the different episodes of the Passion and Death of Jesus of Nazareth.

It has its historical background in the 18th century, when D. Pedro Alcántara Pérez de Meca dedicates to the dedication of the Santísimo Cristo del Socorro a chapel in the convent-hospital of San Juan de Dios.

In 1758, his grandson D. Pedro Perez de Meca founded a brotherhood that was approved by Bishop D. Diego de Rozas.

In 1759 the general of the Order of San Juan de Dios gives to the brotherhood the alluded chapel and gives the approval to its constitutions, that establish as ends of the same one to give burial to the deceaseds, to assist the patients and to pray the Via Crucis with procession and standard on Saturdays of Lent.

In 1800, by concession of the Archconfraternity of the True Cross and Blood of Christ, the "passage of purple Nazarenes" color that they adopt, after leaving the incarnated one, in 1779- already holds the presidency of the procession of Holy Thursday in the afternoon, taking out the "effigy of the SS Christ, and the Palio of Our Lady of Sorrows", and also the Holy Supper, which they bought in 1763 from the purple Murcians.

In October 1939 the Paso Morado was restored and in 1940 the image of the Nazarene of Roque López (1787) paraded for the first time. Today it is the titular of the Brotherhood, renamed with the current name in 1945.
