The Government Board approves an aid of 10,000 euros that will serve to restore the mantle that Queen Elizabeth II gave to the Patroness in 1862, a textile of extraordinary historical value, embroidered in silk and gold with marked influence of the model of the second French empire.
It was elaborated in the Workshop of the Real Palace of Madrid.
The church of the Virgen de las Huertas welcomed this morning the celebration of a press conference in which the President of the Brotherhood, Isabel Giménez, the Vicar of Lorca, Francisco Fructuoso, the parish priest of the temple, Miguel Ángel Alarcón, participated. and the Mayor of the City, Fulgencio Gil.
On the other hand, the Board of Government of the City Council approved this morning the granting of aid to the Brotherhood that will serve to finance the restoration of the mantle of the seat, embroidered in gold, which were given to the Patroness by Queen Elizabeth II in the year 1862. The piece that is going to be restored, which constitutes a relic of extraordinary historical value, is a satin textile, embroidered in gold and silks, with a diameter of 1.5 meters, made in the workshop of the Palace Workshop Real de Madrid.
It has Baroque style decoration, integrated by valance and central field with elegant floral evocation dioeciochesca.
It shows a wide bouquet of acanthus and stems that are intertwined with garlands of fruits and flowers, which even evokes the Rococo embroidery, following the guidelines of neo-baroque aesthetics and recovery of the styles of the Luises, influenced by the model of the second French empire .
It should be noted that precisely this year we are in double congratulations, since the 75th anniversary of the canonical coronation of the Virgen de las Huertas is celebrated, which is why the Bishop of the Diocese of Cartagena, José Manuel Lorca Planes, has granted a Retire.
In the act has encouraged all Lorca to participate in the different acts and masses that have been scheduled during this month, showing the great love and devotion that all Lorca professed by our Patron, an image that unites us.
The Bishop asked the Apostolic Penitentiary of the Holy See for the concession of Plenary Indulgence for different days facing the commemoration of this Jubilee Time.
These days correspond to the celebration of the opening (March 17);
every Sunday of the month of May that the Church dedicates in a special way to the Virgin Mary;
on September 8 at the feast of the Virgen de las Huertas;
September 22 at the Eucharist on the occasion of the pilgrimage of the image of the patron saint of Lorca to the parish of Our Lady of Carmen of that town;
on November 26, the anniversary day of the canonical coronation;
and on March 22, 2020, in the celebration of the closing of this Jubilee Time.
In order to profit from the plenary indulgences (when they have been granted by the Apostolic Penitentiary), the usual requirements (Eucharistic communion, sacramental confession, prayer of the Creed and pray for the intentions of the Pope) must be fulfilled in addition to visiting the Parish-Sanctuary of Our Lady Real de las Huertas.
Lorca has to take advantage of this event to be projected on the tourist map and become a key destination for national tourism.
We have an exceptional heritage that also, thanks to the interventions made after the 2011 earthquakes under the Master Plan, presents its best.

The celebration of the Jubilee Time with the Plenary Indulgence grant had its opening on March 17, when the Virgin received the mantle given by the Consistory.
This date is full of symbolism, since it commemorates the anniversary of the Battle of the Alporchones on March 17, 1452, one of the most outstanding weapons events in the history of the municipality and in which, according to the legend, the Lorca soldiers were entrusted once again to the Virgen de las Huertas to win the battle against the invading troops.
The act has also served to present the poster of these acts, work of Lorca David Francisco Torres del Alcázar.
Every Sunday of the month of May, at 8:00 pm, Jubilee Mass will be celebrated, while every day of May, from Monday to Friday, worship will be offered at 7:30 in the morning.
